Help......help rest me easy at night....I put in Redline MTL fluid in my new T5, afterwards, I realized that instructions called for ATF, and the bottle said that although it does cover ATF viscosity range, you should use Redline ATF D4 when it calls for ATF . My tranny does shift a little stiff, am I killing it by not getting it properly lubed?

Interesting question.... GM t-5's call for syncromesh and I believe that the GForce also does. Will it work, probalby. Will it work like it's supposed to, probably not.

I hate to say it, but I would drain and refill with the cheap ATF to flush out the wrong stuff and then refill with the expensive ATF. It will shift so much better that way.

If it's not shifting right, change it.

from What I've heard it isn't good for the trans. the material on the synchro collars are only compatable with certain fluids, I'd do what srothfuss said

People used to use MTL in T5's but when I called Redline, they said that D4 was just for this application (manual trannies requiring ATF). I had wanted to use MTL because I live in the desert and they were pretty against it. I use D4.

There are still some old school folks out there that run MTL. Some report initial rough shifting when ambient temps are cold.

I would change out the fluid - look at 30 bucks down the drain vs a trans. maybe you can save the MTL and toss it in another car or a friends car.

BTW, nicely done Nick.

Good luck.

WTF, dude? . Now I call , the only thing AOD is good for is dead lift competition, I got a serious back strain and a possible hernia from moving that chunk of iron around. Unless of course, you are kidding, aren't you?

PS: My tranny shifts somewhat hard, much harded than I am used to in my friends' cars, I don't know if its the juice or just a brand new tranny.

I've run MTL in my car for over 15 years without much of a problem in the Nevada desert and wouldn't hesitate to use the stuff in a hotter climate or somewhere that it's warm most of the year, but when the temperature drops into the 40° range you're going to run into shifting problems.

I expect it's pretty cold this time of year where you're located and the fluid is causing the hard shifting and it's taking longer for everything to sync up. If you want to stick with Redline and run into a lot of cooler weather then go with the D4.

If you are looking for the factory recommendation it is:

Dexron 3 / Mercron

This is the fluid you need to cross reference when you purchase... But like Hissin mentioned, Redline recommends Dexron 4 which superceeds Dexron 3.

Just so you know.
