Taurus 3.8 electric fan

So fan just came in. DId a quick mock up. Not even close to a direct bolt-in. Any tips on mounting the fan? Wiring tips? I suck at wiring.

I took lenghts of 1/2" X 1/8" flat steel and bolted them to the Radiator flanges at the top and bottom, then bolted the fan to them. Put a nut between the brackets and the Radiator where you bolt them on and it will provide space for bolt heads between the brackets and the radiator fins to attach the fan to the brackets.

I wired mine up with a heavy duty weather proof relay with a thermostatic switch preset at 185 degrees. Then I used a light duty relay to bypass the thermostat switch when the a/c is on. I only use the high speed circuit on the fan. I also used a 40 amp circuit breaker. If you have a stock intake manifold there is a plug on the drivers side rear that you can screw the switch into. If not you can drill and tap a hole, but you will have to remove the lower intake to do that. I had to because I am running an Explorer intake. Go to JayCorp Technologies, cooling products. They sell the relay set up with good instructions. You will have to get the 40 amp breaker and another relay, which they also sell. The whole set up will cost about $65.00. They also bave a real nice PWM controller for $130.00 that you can program to the factory ECT or temp gauge sender or use their sender. Try to avoid the cheep controllers they sell at the local parts stores. They will burn out.

I got the non-adjustable hayden controller from Advance Auto for $18.00. If anyone can tell me or have a wiring diagram I would buy them a beer next time you are in Jacksonville, FL

If that is the one that has a probe that inserts into the fins of the radiator and a 30 amp fuse, I used one on a customers car that had a fan that doesnt draw near the current the Taurus fan draws. It lasted half the summer on a car that was not daily driven. Havent used one since. The Cooling system is not a good place to cut corners. Get a heavier duty set up and you will remember the quality long after you have forgotten the cost. I would also recommend up grading the alternator.

make sure you don't venture too far from home once you connect that controller to that taurus fan. that fan is gonna chew that controller up and spit it out like yesterday's garbage.

Taking the Hayden back today.

I don't have A/C. So all I need is the Jaycorp relay? Do I need the temp sensor?
HELP!

You need a high-current relay (like a Bosch 70 amp unit) and a temp sensor.

I would get the relay with the sensor. Unless you want to run the fan continually. They do sell them without the sensor. If you have a stock intake there is a plug on the lower driver side rear of the intake that you can remove and screw the sensor in. You will have to remove the upper to gain access to the plug. Just drain some of the coolant unless you dont mild getting it all over the intake. Then be sure to install a 40 amp circuit breaker instead of using the supplied fuse. The instructions that come with the relay are easy to follow.

Whats wrong with the cheap fan controllers? I use one on my daily driver escort because of discontinued relays that go bad. I got the one that has the thermostatic switch that you push in the radiator and has a standard relay. I've been driving it for like 6 months no problem, turns on right when the needle gets to the center every time, never overheats. I had planned on doing the same thing when putting an electric fan on the stang because of how inexpensive it was. What is wrong with em?

I use my dual contour fan on a 40 amp relay and a toggle switch......no problems. Awesome fan, couldn't get the taurus fan to fit with my blower crank pulley.

nothing really. i run the adjustable one with my dual intrepid fans. its just that they won't hold up to the taurus and the markviii fan's current draw.
