Eight months after applying, I had my graduation ceremony this past December upon completion of basic training with the fire department

Myself,

My Dad and me,

I've already responded to about 40 calls including a massive structure fire.

This really rocks!

Hey congrats, OM! You look suitably proud; the li'l Mrs looks proud of you, too!

Your Dad has the same look my Dad used to get while watching me..... "He's an idiot, risking his neck.... Ain't it GREAT???!!!"

Paid-on-call. We have seven halls in the Township, five of which are only paid-on-call, the other three busier halls are composite (manned full-time plus paid-on-call). I'm in a composite hall. The POC members like myself get paid twice a year, June (just in time for property taxes) and December (just in time for Christmas shopping).

I work two hundred feet from the hall and they let me leave for calls. I had two this morning (lots of black ice for the commuters).

Truth is, last year I was really let down by the company I went to work for after just six months. I asked my special needs boy what he wanted me to do and he said, "I want you to be a fireman!"

I lucked out and got a great new job at an aerospace company and applied to the fire department.

When life hands you lemons....

Yeah, not Virginia. There are actually a surprising number of guys from B.C. that frequent the classic section here.
