It’s pretty cool when the past gets paid its due, and especially remarkable when it surrounds a half-century celebration of continuous production. At the 2014 North American International Auto Show, Ford has the all-new Ford Mustang, Ford F-150, and several other refreshed models for the upcoming showcase on display. What could be quickly passed over at the show, however, is the 1962 Ford Mustang 1 concept–a mid-engined Mustang that never came to pass.

This Mustang speedster, packing 90 horses into a 1500 pound sled, called upon a unique (at the time) 1.5-liter V4 engine to get on down the road & track. Ford had intended the car to be a direct competitor against the short-lived Chevrolet Corvair…and we all know how that turned out, Ralph.

The 1962 Mustang concept might be caught in the sticky pages of most Mustang history texts, but as enthusiasts well know, understanding the obscurities is the crowning achievement of the hobby itself.

If you’re interested in reading & seeing more, hop over to Yahoo! and check out more of this nostalgic Mustang concept.

I am surprised some company hasn't started popping these bodies out .
i would love to have one. Just think how it would be with a v8 conversion and a Mendeola trans axle.
