I must have had a sub-subfloor in my bathroom. I pulled up the linoleum, and thought "**** that" when I saw the glue. I then pulled up 1/4" subflooring, and still had the main subfloor underneath. I was then able to lay the concrete backerboard down, and tile on top. Guess I got lucky that the builder laid that extra 1/4" board down.
I bet if you were to try to cut out the actual subfloor in those rooms, it would have been just as big a PITA as the glue ended up being. One nice thing about doing all that work is that once its done you will either never move out, or your next house will be exactly what you want so you dont have to do it again. Thats my mindset now after all the work Ive done to my house. Pops Fun, toilets arent too bad to replace, but sucks you had to mess with a public toilet! Thats much worse than one in your home thats kept clean.
I've got you all beat. My first house I bought (fixer upper) had a crawl space uner it. All the drain pipes were rotted or missing so when you flushed or used anything in the house it drained into the crawl space. after about a month of this started smelling pretty bad. found the access door, and
