January 2007 Update

WE’VE VISITED MILLER MOTORSPORT PARK

When you hear someone say “state-of-the-art,” this is the track they are talking about. Everything is brand new and absolutely First Class. We’re going to be spoiled wherever else we go from here on out. There is plenty of room and everyone at the track could not be more helpful. We are so looking forward to this convention!

WE’VE EXPANDED IT TO 4 FULL DAYS

We’ve gotten an excellent response from the SVT Owners Association. So much so, in fact, that we needed to add a fourth day of open track because we’re afraid SAAC members will grab most of the spots. You’ll be able to run any of the four mornings or afternoons but we expect most SAAC members to gravitate towards the first three days and SVTOA members to run the last three days. Those are the plans we’re making, but we may just be surprised. We’re also expecting to see a whole lot of new ‘07 GT500s burning up the track. Look for some special activity for those cars and owners.

COBRA DAYTONA COUPE REUNION

One of our goals is to have all 6 Daytona Coupes together at this convention. We already have commitments from three of the owners and we will have the resources to get the one in Japan and the one in Switzerland shipped over for this event. We obviously can’t make any promises but we have high hopes. Then we’ll put an original driver in each car for a few exhibition laps. Imagine THAT for a photo opportunity

4 DAYS OF OPEN TRACK

We don’t want to hear anybody whining about “not enough track time.” If four days isn’t enough you need to get a night job driving a taxi cab. We’ll be using the 2.25-mile East Course for all open track sessions and the two race groups.

CELEBRITY RACE

MMP has about 30 ‘06 Mustangs modified by Ford Racing. They’re outfitted with roll cages and upgraded everything else, and we’re going to invite a bunch of celebrities to get behind the wheel and turn them loose. Just who will be on that invite list? Use your imagination!

2 SEPARATE RACES

Yes, 2 races. One for vintage Cobras, Shelbys and GT40s. And don’t be surprised to see some Corvettes and Camaros join in. It’s going to look like the 1960s all over again. Late model Mustangs will fill the second grid: 1972 through 1996 cars are eligible. Can you say Roush Trans-Am Mustang?

3 CAR SHOWS

SAAC-31 was a test bed for a new concept in car shows and it was much more successful that even we predicted. So they will be back. The Judged Concours will showcase the creme of the creme – the absolute pinnacle of Shelbys, Cobras, Bosses and Competition Cars restored to perfection. This will take place on Saturday. Also on Saturday will be the other two car shows: Hi-Performance Motors, for Cobras, Shelbys and Boss Mustangs presented as they might have appeared on a Shelby dealer’s lot when they were new. All other cars will be eligible for the Shine ‘N Show. In both shows a team of judges will select cars deserving of special recognition awards in about a dozen classes. All cars parked on the show field with receive a SAAC-32 commemorative medallion. The Show ‘N Shine will be held on Sunday for SVT vehicles.

PARADE LAPS ALL 4 DAYS

The parade laps last year were also very well received, so we’ll continue them again this year. But we won’t try to squeeze everyone into one lunchtime session. We’ll be using the 2.2-mile West Course. The parade laps will run concurrently with the open track. Like last year, speeds will be strictly limited to 55 MPH. Passengers are encouraged. There will be a modest charge of $10 per car (payable as you go out on the track) and everyone will get 5 laps. Parade laps will be scheduled, morning and afternoon, all 4 days.

INSTRUCTOR LAPS ALL 4 DAYS

What’s it like to lap the track in a new racing Mustang with a professional driver behind the wheel? You can find out. Miller Motorsports Park has a bunch of specially modified ‘06 Mustangs that have been heavily massaged by Ford Racing. Between the parade lap sessions on the West Course, MMP’s instructors will be giving hot laps ($50 for three laps). It’s the ultimate E-ticket ride.

FRIDAY NIGHT SEMINARS

After a full day at the track on Friday, grab a quick dinner and then head to the main ballroom back at the hotel to catch some historical and technical seminars. SAAC’s registrars will be on hand and we’ll round up some of the hobby’s most experienced experts. They’ll all be there to answer your questions and tell you some things you never knew.

SHELBY EMPLOYEE REUNION

We’ll need drivers for those Daytona Coupes. We’re also inviting the rest of the team. It will be a typical reunion and your chance to meet the guys who made it all happen.
