My stupid 4.6 decided to spit out a spark plug. The threads are gone.

There are several repair kits on the market that I've seen before in person, and I seem to like this one the best. OEM/Spark plug thread repair set for Ford Triton engine cylinder heads (24200) | | AutoZone.com

It has a guide to make sure the everything stays straight and square, and the inserts have the correct beveled seat, instead of a regular style insert.

Has anyone used that kit? Or suggest any other kit for that matter.

It pisses me off because after the tow home and buying the tool it will still cost me around 400$ to do it myself. That would have almost had my fenders and hood painted dammit!

I have used them in my shop. They work pretty well. Just take your time and be careful.

I brought that kit home with me today, along with a bore scope that I borrowed from someone to make sure all the metal shavings get blown out of the cylinder.

I'm going to do this tomorrow.

Which 4.6 motors/years are prone to this problem?

Well I was under the impression that the 03-04 Mustang motors weren't susceptible to this because they had full threads in the head, and not just four or five like the earlier ones, but sure enough..............

I've had this issue 4 times now. Taking your time with the tool and making sure everything is cleaned out of the cylinder is the two tips my mechanic and myself suggested.

I never want to do that again.

The work itself wasn't hard, but I was extremely nervous.

The biggest pain in the ass is getting all the metal shavings out.
