Yeah, I know...I'm a mustang traitor. But I feel betrayed by Ford and their dealers. Last weekend, the SVT folks were down here in Birmingham for the local Mustang Show. I talked at length w/ John Clor [SVT Marketing] about that particular dealer and their +$4000 pricing on GT's. He says they REALLY hate that, especially for the SVT cars. He told me that he would put me in touch w/ a dealer who would NOT GOUGE to get on the list for a GT500 if I were so inclined.

For now, go test drive an '05 GTO; I PROMISE you will be impressed! Of course, if it is all about brands, name, etc, perhaps not. I am simply burned out from the 'buzz' surrounding the '05 'stangs and lack of availability of V-8's.

If it came in a convertible I would have checked it out already. The thought of driving a (GASP) GM product has never crossed my mind until now. The Corvette looks mighty appealing as an alternative to BMW if I don't get my GT vert soon.

I am in the southeast and I don't know what you are talking about with the price gouging. I live near charlotte and ordered a GT deluxe for just under 26k. I am taking delivery on it this Friday (placed order on 3/3/05) and the dealership has been great in the process. Glad to hear you found a car you like though, even though I don't like the GTOs I am glad you are enjoying it .

Ordered my gt on 3/17

Ordered my 05 GT ( X Plan ) on March 17. Robo-lady said last week ( 4/21 ) it was scheduled to be built the week of 5/2. I'll keep you posted..

because the dealer lied is a very good re3ason to blame them.it hurts that dealer , it hurts all deealers and it erodes the integrity of ford.Blueoval and i have butted heads many times, but he is correct on this one.

Giving your dealership an ultimatium . At the current demand, I am surprised they didn't refund your money on the spot, because they could sell it for far more then x plan.

now that would look great------dealer lies and when confronted, they say never mind, we just won't give you yoiur car .

don't give up yet blue. but if you must, take the vette, you will not lose as much on the other end as you would with the bmw.

Who would take a GTO over a stang??
The Gto looks like a grand prix, grand am, grand anything.
I'm sure the 6L engine is amazing, but the looks the looks... GM could have attempted to provide some retro look.
I would easly wait for the stang over getting a GTO today.

I don't know how you present stang owners did it, I ordered just 2 weeks ago and cannot stop thinkg about it (Driving me crazy) I don't know how I'm going to survive several months, and throw in this 05/06 order problem and I'm gonna blow.... someone has to have some tips on proper waiting techniques???

Thanks for the encouragement Yellow. I'm still hanging on (for now) but my patience does have a limit. Hell, I already ordered the personalized plates "SWFTPNY" for my GT vert and it looks like I'll have them before I get my car. If I go the alternate route (330ci or Corvette) then I'll have to get a new plate and trash the Mustang-centric one.

Style over substance

Yeah, I like the Mustang 'retro' look...was real pleased upon first sight a year ago in Nashville...but get INSIDE the car and look...and get inside the GTO and look. There is ABSOLUTELY NO COMPARISON in the quality and comfort of the two cars. Again, I am a MUSTANG GUY, not a GM fan.

What I am seeing is style over substance. Yeah, I like the look of the 'stang better than the goat. But a better ride, better interior, IRS, and 100 more hp for the same money...it is no contest. The appearance of the exterior matters a bit, but I really am not as concerned about what other people are looking at (the exterior) but rather what I am looking at and riding in (the interior).

And, for what it's worth...we may ALL start getting tired of the 'stang when there are a half-million on the roads!

Good point. In 2007 when there really are 400k+ of the "new Mustang" on the road they'll lose a lot of their cachet. They'll be as common as a Honda Accord...common, very common. Present 2005 owners, enjoy the exclusivity while it lasts...because it won't.

I just checked and GM is only offering a $1k incentive on th GTO. I thought they were up to $3500 cash back. Where do you live and where did you buy your GTO?

New BMW 3-series are good investments. You won't end up up-side-down on your payments (at least I didn't on my 99 or 02).

However, I can relate to the frustrations, I just sold my 2002 325i so I could get a Mustang GT, but there are none to be had, so now I'm borrowing a car.

I can atest that Mustangs don't hold their value well. I sold my 1997 GT before I ordered my 2005 GT vert. The car had 70k on the odo and was in excellent condition (always garaged, regular maintenance, synthetic fluids, non-smoker). I had added a K&N CAI and custom wheels. It was white with saddle leather. I got a MASSIVE $6500 for the car on the open market...only 2 offers. It was a fun car but it ran WAY hot even with Redline "Water Wetter" added to the coolant. I also had to have the power steering pump replaced (under warranty).

Fortunatley for me, I have 3 cars so I don't have to borrow a ride until I get my GT vert (or BMW 330ci depending how Ford performs).

There were over a million 64-65-66 Stangs made, and those seem to have held their appeal over time.

Even better, the more they build, you can be assured of a plentiful and cheap supply of aftermarket parts. That's one of the benefits of buying a mass-market success.

I live, and bought the car in Birmingham. The deal was a GM supplier price for 31,500...minus 1000 cash back. Basically, I met a guy on the LS1GTO.com website and he hooked me up w/ the certificate. They can give away 2 per month...even better would be from a GM employee, which is 5% under invoice.

Resale on most any car is NOT a good reason to make a decision, unless you want a new car every 2-3 yrs. Yes, resale on a bimmer is better, but you've paid a LOT more up-front...money that could be invested elsewhere.

First generation 'stangs ARE still around as they were so 'revolutionary' at the time...a classic design that we simply haven't gotten tired of. I love the look of them. Yeah, aftermarket availability is nice. Actually, one of the things that made the GTO more viable to me is that there is a developing aftermarket. The LS2 motor is not hard to hop-up. The Aussies have been hot-rodding the Monaro (what a GTO actually is!) and some folks have ordered parts from Oz. Koni has shocks (easily modified for the macstruts). Springs and swaybars are coming shortly. Even some body kits.

Different strokes for different folks...but I tell you, GO DRIVE a 2005 GTO and I guarantee you will be impressed! And coming from Australia, it's not like it's really even a GM product!!!

I can certainly understand your impatience in waiting for the Mustang.

But, I went through the same thought process as you did. I qualify for GMO pricing through my bro-in-law. Could have bought an '05 GTO for $29.3 (using the current rebate).

Some of the GTO's interior I liked, some of it I didn't (why....oh....why can't GM design a more integrated passenger airbag look....what's with the "mouse fur" on the doors?).

I thought the GTO "drove heavy" when compared to the Mustang GT. Further comparisons were the shifter felt rubbery and less precise, the clutch wasn't as smooth and the steering felt slow when comparing it to the Mustang.

Seat of the pants performance felt about the same between the GTO and the Mustang (that extra 100HP was penalized by the GTO's extra weight).

Aside from the exterior styling, I thought the IUP in the Mustang looked better than the "stuff" in the GTO, too.

Add-in the $4K price difference (in favor of the Mustang....which I bought on X plan) and it was a "no brainer" to wait for my Mustang to come in.

I just got off the phone with my dealer rep, ordered two GT's 6 weeks ago when I picked up an 05 F150. I was told 12 weeks then, 3 weeks later both cars were bumped to priority level 13 which is supposed to be filled from there alloted amount of GT's (6 a month). As of today no VIN's have been assigned and they are wondering if the cars will arrive as 05's at all. This amazes me as the last vehicle I ordered came in within 4 weeks, Ford is really missing the ball on this vehicle launch.

My neighbor went out to the Ford dealer in Roseville to get an 05 Gt they had the conv. for $35,000 according to him. He wanted the hardtop in white they did not have it. Neither did Folsom Lake Ford. One of the dealers called him back and told him to order an 06. They have not even got the 05s in for the people who placed an order for it in December. The other option was to pick any Gt hardtop that comes in and it may not be the white. I have a feeling that all the GTs are going to come at one time and it will be a surprise to everyone maybe in June or July. But if some of you gotta wait that long I'd get an 06. And if you are able get the 06Shelby or add your name to the list.

I'll be ordering the 07 Shelby but that is still awhile away, would cancel my 05 order and pickup one of the 6 Saleens they have but I already have a set of Bonspeed Delta 20's with tires, Eibach springs, and Baer Brakes on order.
