I appreciate everyone for their thoughts and input on my last post, it really gave me some good ideas and some direction as to how I am going to go about finishing my build. I am on the home stretch so to speak. All the panels are bolted back on the car, all the mechanical work is complete, all that is left is some scraping, sanding (maybe a little bondo) and I will be ready for paint! But thats where I have came to a dilemma, i really want it black. Black is beautiful, but I have seen some cars (never a mustang) painted in flat black...anyone have any thoughts on this? I was thinking I could paint the car in a black primer, then always come back and paint over that whenever (if-ever) I decide to put the showroom shine black on it. I'm anxious to get this project on the road, have seen some cars painted flat and it just looks mean, but didnt know if it would look silly on a mustang. Anyway, thoughts? Pics if anyone has them of a flat black mustang....

i think "rat rod black" only works well on certain vehicles.......lead sled's are my favorite...

i had my car rat rod black as a temporary color while awaiting final paint, because it looked better than the multi-color paint/primer/rust scheme that it was.......

I tend to agree with "certain cars" looking good that way. Love to see old trucks and 30's model hot rods painted up like that. But im in the situation you were in, I want to drive it around, but don't have the cash for the nice paint job at the moment, unless I break down and just put it on the credit card...but thats just foolish.

my hood was new and came in satin black primer, the rest of the car i did with 12 cans of cheap rattle can paint from homedepot...........i didn't even sand the car down before shooting it,,,,,,just gave it a fast wash job and good drying.....

about $25 total, although i did splurge for the rattle can handle thingy that you snap on because i know my finger would never make it through 12 cans.......

i knew it was going to be taken back down to bare metal with soda blast, and there were already 3 coats of paint there before me.........so it didn't cost any extra, and looked 1000% better than it did, drove it for a couple years like that......

Yeah, i have new doors, hood, fender, valances, trunk lid, the only thing i have to paint is the hood and quarters pretty much....but I dont know. I guess we will just see. The roof and quarters have an unGODLY amount of paint on them, I am currently skinning it down to bare metal with a razor scraper, going pretty well too, the paint is soooo thick that it comes off in big chunks. I actually pressure washed most of the paint off of one of the quarter panels.

I think for a temporary paint job its fine, but I wouldn't keep it that way.

On certain cars it looks great, I don't see a Mustang as looking right though in flat black.

Maybe if the rest of the car as a theme then just maybe it would look good.

I have about decided against it, because I don't like doing things twice, lol. But I do believe I am going to do a single stage black instad of bc/cc. Single stage works and looks great on solid colors. I had a blue camaro that was painted with PPG Delstar single stage (a very high quality single stage) and it looked great for years, it was on there for 9 years when i sold it earlier this year, still shined like new, never even buffed or color sanded it.
