Not necessarily but it's a good reason to do a compression check and/or pull the valve cover to check the baffle.

I took the oil filler cap off with the engine running, nothing is blowing out.

Got the RPM issue fixed by installing a stock intake I got off of ebay. Still a little jumpy while coasting, but within 950-1100 rpm. I can deal with that for sure. I got 21 mpg with all those issues and 279 miles out of a tank with 30 psi in the tires. On to other issues. First and foremost, why is oil coming from that valve cover breather.

The oil from the valve cover is known as blow by. The modular engine was made so that some blow by will exist, and as the engines age, it gets worse.

First, you must look for a reason for this to be happening. Do a compression and leakdown test. Check the results. If all the numbers are within 5-10%, then it is just normal wear.

Now that you know what is causing it, apply the bandaid. Get an air/oil seperator (aka catch can). This is help filter out the oil that is coming from the valve cover and trap it in the catch can. Once a month or so, drain the oil back into the engine, and keep going.

You can make your own oil separator from air compressor parts at a home improvement store. I have one for my blower. It cost me less than $20 to make. I get slight blow by...

Hmmmm... maybe it's time to replace the filter....

Btw, in this photo, the hose on the left from pcv to intake is a heater hose... NOOOOO... I need to update the photo with the current one on there that doesn't sweat.

Would I put it in line with the pcv valve, or the breather thats actually sucking up the oil?
