5.0, i think the steeda is a little peaky. comes on really well at 3k+. funny, though, that i have NO traction below that anyway. i will choose a different cam in the future if i decide to keep the car that long. it was supposed to be a fun project until the '05 car came along. what do you think about your cam? i chose the cam strictly for streetability WITHOUT a tune. i would choose a hotter cam before i got a professional dyno tune.

sure, tom, i'll let you know. the guys on the stlmustangs site set it up. only $45.

i'm really excited about tomorrow. it's a great feeling of accomplishment to see how your creation comes out, don't you think? so far, it's all been done with my own two hands, and i get into that stuff.

I like my cam really well. It has very good low end . Pulls hard from 1200-6 k all way up. Has a massive tq curve to it.

EDC your the man I hear. And your customers are a cut above. A cut above what, you failed to mention. ok tonado and slick 50 users. You better start to talk to all of your customers becuase all of them are not as happy as you think. If you ever stop cumming all over yourself Start to do some networking and go around and start asking all of your happy customers about how great you are after the product is sold. I'm behind a guy at Englishtown and where talking abut different things and another cam grinders name comes up (sorry it wasn't yours) and how he found him after he broke one of your cams and he couldn't get you on the phone for three months, your so busy. you shouldn't **** in sombody else garden without checking your own. I have been fooling aroud with engines for 20 years and talk to alot of people and thank god those who know better stay away from guy's like you...... This should get it started again. Have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

I know the question was not directed at me but I have the same cam and could not be happier. The cam is noticeable at idle but not a big lope. The car drives like stock and the fuel mileage is still over 18-19mpg in town(vs. 21-22 with stock cam and unported heads). The car just keeps pulling to 6800rpms where I shift, the cam is good to 6000rpm NA so I figure another 500-800 with the blower. I love the Steeda #19 cam. For me it came down to the #19, a few other shelf cams, and an Ed Curtis custom cam, I chose the #19 over the custom because of price. After the horrible experience a friend of mine had with Ed's service I am very happy I when with the #19.

eagle87: First off what does your post have to do with anything in this thread except flame others? Absolutley nothing! Secondly who the fu*k are you to talk s*it about Ed C. without even talking or doing any business with his company?...you based your opinions on what? Personal experience?...obviously not. So thanks for your input but if you can't contribute to the original post than please don't. I'm a satisfied FTI customer and Ed has helped me on many occasions even with my novice questions with matters outside of the camshaft I purchased from him. He didn't to...but did. So unless you have personal experience with someone don't talk. Why don't you use your 20 years of "fooling around with engines" for something worth reading. Live up to your onw quote "you shouldn't **** in sombody else garden without checking your own."

65 t.b
70mm mass
headers/exhaust ..
bfg drag radials
hurst billet/plus
cai

so deff with fuel and thumper heads 12's are no problem..i meen com on stock e7's are going 12's so ported one's will deffenetly help..i think if you want a good reliable daily driver..go cheapest route possible..i meen look at it this way if it breaks its the cheapest to replace as well.....i think ed is right for the guys who get the thumpers and add good valves springs etcetc..they have about 800 in them for 200-300 more good set of heads....

hey if you guys want a really nice looking ,upgrade for your 5.0 get the thumpers. I got mine a while ago and my friends were very impressed with the looks ,i was impressed with the 117 mph at the track with an old school paxton at like 4psi. I recently sold mine for some performer rpms ,but should have kept them for my 306 i am building. By the way they sold in 3 days for $525. hi thumper

Thats cool....I almost choose that cam but I was speed density at the time I did my HCI and the steeda cam specs are right at the top of the limit where it starts to push the limits of sd and cams.

results

Here is that page from 94-95 dyno!!
I was able to get a couple of pulls today on a dyno-jet dyno.....

2000...100...230
2500...120...240
3000...150...250
3500...180...270
4000...220...280
4500...240...270
5000...245...260
5500...250...240

these are corrected numbers.

the curves are so smooth. the torque curve is nearly dead flat. the hp curve goes upward in such a nice arc.

the sound on the dyno was awesome.

i have some sort of problem, though. the air/fuel ratio was 14.5-1 at 1800rpm, then shot down to less than 10-1 at 2200rpm and was off the charts down there for the entire run. there were some eyebrows raised when the air-fuel was shown on the monitor. i think i should be afraid!

you think that would be taken care of with tuning, or is there another issue that may cause such a rich condition? funny thing is, this is with the STOCK fuel pump! i would've thought the stock fuel pump would've given up by now, but, instead, i'm rich! go figure.

for those who care, here is an exhaustive run-down of the exact mods...

thumper heads (stock valve sizes)
steeda #19 cam
crane 1.7 roller rockers
cobra intake
65mm FMS t-body
stock upper intake tube
75mm Pro-m for 19# injectors, hooked to open air element
underdrive pulleys (not on alternator)

That should be about 300 at the fly wheel !! taking in a 15% loss from the T5 !! And he IS working on the fuel problem, I'm sure he has more in it!! Killer pulls !! congrats!!

Here's what I dont get.

A few guys have [sarcastically] mentioned in this thread that no one currently running a set of "Magic 12 second Thumper heads" has posted any 12 second time slips.

There are many many guys who have run 12s on Coupes on bone stock un touched motor/intakes, w/ just bolt ons and no power adders. Guys like Bob Cosby [12.50s I think?], Al Renkel, The guy on here with the SWEET looking 93 Green Coupe thats gone 12.96... tons more...

Even my own car has run 1.8, 13.11 @ 102 with an untouched motor, intakes, and run through the stock 4 cat H pipe. [ya I know big deal..] I wasn't running a short belt or anything. I'm sure once the track opens in the spring.. a few small changes [an off road X, some rear ctrl arms, short belt, 6AL] should make me a consistent 12.90 car.

So to say that Thumpers heads arent 12 second capable makes no sense because guys have/are still doing it with unopened stock motors. Ideally yeah, i'd love to have an FTI setup , however with the exchange CDN dollar... me wanting to go back to school, the reality of it will probably be a Thumper setup, B cam, and T moss lower... I fully expect the car to run 12.40-50s with this stuff long as the traction is there. Maybe with some tweaking afterwards [manual steering, elec water pump, extrude hone stock upper, weight savings etc..] it'll go low 12s

Thats part of the fun of this hobby... with me anyways.. is to keep trying to find that last little tenth till I finally hit a brick wall. My old T Type had the same basic stock parts combo from 1998 -2001 when I sold it but with minor tweaking, chip changes [timing, fueling, TC lockup, knock sensor, BLM lockup etc] it eventually went from 12.80s @ 103 MPH to 12.19 @ 108 MPH.

Another note too.. maybe i'm one of a few, but once anything I have goes low low 12s [my T Type did it with stock everything - UNported heads LOL], I stop, because our track gives you the boot for not having every last piece of [up to date] safety stuff for 11.99 and quicker. I drive my Stang daily in the summer and i'm not caging/harnessing the damn thing. C clip elims, 31 splines etc for my own good.. yeah but.. So yeah, sometimes 12s IS exactly what people want and nothing more.

sometimes, people want a car that is fun to drive and will NEVER take it to the track. i'm not entirely sure that my car would be more fun if it ran 12.99 than if it ran 13.29. i really appreciate people's quest for better et's and higher mph, it's just not high on my list.

I'd love to see someone with a stock 302 shortblock that's naturally asparated especailly with a combo similar to mine but with aluminun heads bust my arse on the highway. I wanna see it, I am in the Atlanta area. Not trying to be cocky, but I just want to see how bad I am suposed to loose.

I don't get it, I posted this in larger print and thought I was going to get all kinds of responses, but none at all. I did the same in the "300ZX" tread in the talk forum and none of these 500+ HP 300Z guys want some. I've been told my car makes no power, but then again, how did I pull on a couple of Mach 1's on the highway??? They are suposed to be 13flat at 105-107mph and I pulled them, one stock, one with he said gears, CAI, and MAF. He knew how to drive also. I am saving money to get a new clutch and fix my other little problems and it will be done by the time the track opens and then I promise to post times.

I'm not about talk, but about action, and I know it is wrong, but alot of this happens on the street. It seems that alot of result on the track don't align with the results on the dyno's or the street. The track is like a boxing ring, there are set conditions, rules, and nothing like the street. Just because you can box or wrestle someone into a figure 4 doesn't mean you will do the same in a street brawl. My Fox is built to be driven on the street, and so I run it the same at the track. If I were just shooting for numbers, I would have gotten a set of slicks and some spray, but not yet.

http://www.geocities.com/bgillis17/kevins.html Thumber heads, 284 RWHP was capable of 12's with cool weather and tires at the track. Ran a 13.7 103 at its only night at the track and it was about 90 deg. and very humid. My car was even running half a second slower.

I just gottta say that Thumper is the 'Kiss Me''Kiss Me''Kiss Me''Kiss Me''Kiss Me', because I just ordered some heads from him and ive been debating on using his heads or some other ones and after he proved to me that his heads were better he still hooked me up. So I say Thumpers all the way!
