For some reason, when the engine reaches @2500rpm I can hear what sounds like a rapid ticking/tapping sound from what sounds like the left side of the engine.

This is on an 03 GT vert 5 speed with 31,800 miles...and the car has been babied since day one.

I have a call into Ford to see when I could bring it in

Any thoughts on what it could be?

Mini-update

Stang went in today and Ford called to tell me that the ticking sound had something to do with a part from the clutch. As soon as they pressed down on the clutch pedal the ticking sound went away. The service tech mentioned the part but of course I forgot as I was busy as work.

Anyway they ordered the part(s) and as soon as I get it back I'll post what they did to fix it.

The tick is gone but the fix to me was strange. It appears that it wasn't an engine tick but something to do with the clutch.

Maybe someone here could figure out what happen.

(1) F4ZZ-7506-A QUADRAN 439047

(1) 1R3Z-7563-AA PLATE & 460395

I have the '03 shop manual.
F6ZZ-7600-A BRG ASY is the pilot shaft bearing.
1R3Z-7563-AA PLATE is the clutch pressure plate.
I cannot find the other 2 parts listed.
Too bad you didn't know in advance they were planning to dissasemble your clutch. For another $50-$100, you could have asked them to throw in a new friction disk and throwout bearing, then have a complete new clutch.

Considering the work was done under warranty, if asked I would have gladly paid $100 knowing I had a new clutch with 32,000 miles on the car.

Thanks for your help on this.
