Im trying to find a ticking sound on the driver side of the car, checked for exhaust leaks wanst able to find one. I placed a screw driver to the valve cover to see if its coming from there, no luck either.
I cant quite narrow it down but ive heard that a bad injector will making a ticking noise is that correct?

I also did notice however that while i was seafoaming the engine the driver side plug cloests to the firewall had.. gas.. it didnt feel or smell like oil to me but i found gas on the accel plug wires and on the head on the back side. however the spark plug itself is on pretty tight. It almost seems like its coming from the valve cover but if that were so then gas has to be coming from there along with oil but I just find gas.

Any suggestions?

The 'ticking' could be anything from a lifter to a rocker arm...among other things.

From what you're describing, you're saying #8 cylinders plug and plug wire have gas visually on them? If this was the case, chances are pretty good the #8 injector is leaking. It'd be hard to see tucked under the upper intake. You could take a small piece of cardboard and place as close to the injector as possible (blocking the path towards the drivers side) and see if it's "wet" after a start up.

Doing this will help narrow down the search for the leak.

Hope this helps!

Yea thats what I suspected a lifter or a rocker arm however upon listening within the valve cover it is not coming from there. Hmmm if it was a leaking injector would it not leak on top of the valve cover also? didnt find any there though. Its worth a try though

These little noises can be a pain to find, keep in mind these cars were known for some valve train noise.....a major tick could be anything from a lifter to an exhaust leak!

Good luck

The only ticking ive ever heard from a injector would be a diesel one. However, pull the valve covers, take the rockers off and the pushrods, i would get new pushrods, they are like 10 bux a set at oreillys(16) then put it all together, and make sure you get the rockers nice and tight, and you should be good, if it still happens, its prolly a lifter, if all it makes is a faint noise dont worry, you can get some fms ones when you put in that radical cam youve been eyeing.

You give bad advice, please stop.

Dont throw money at it until you know what the problem is. The pushrods are most likely not the problem.

I found the problem however strange it was, I pulled off the driver side gasket and replaced it. Ticking is gone! but the gasket I pulled off was perfectly fine and bolts werent loose, the problem I have now is that I cant get the very last bolt in nothing there at all. The 2nd to the last bolt i have it halfway in but i know its at at an angle really tightened it in there, about half the bolt sticking out
The best I could do to get that bolt back in since nothing is in the last header hole..

....what about the fuel leaking problem?

The ticking stopped after a valve cover gasket change?

I think he means header gasket.

It's a tough one to diagnose because there is more than one thing that could cause that type of sound in that area. It was a header gasket for me once, a stuck lifter, and just plain old rocker noise another time.

With the header gaskets, it really pays to use a good gasket, especially with cheap headers. I'm not saying you have cheap headers...

Having an E cam means absolutely nothing, as far as needing lifters goes. They wouldn't wear out simply because of an aftermarket cam. And why would you replace pushrods, if the factory (or aftermarket) ones are perfectly fine? Just to spend money for the hell of it? I really have to agree with 795.0pacecar on this one, to stop giving bad advice. I'm not trying to rag on you, but I think you need to learn a little more about engines before giving advice on troubleshooting problems like this one. You told him to buy pushrods, and that he probably needed lifters, but it was an exhaust gasket which was actually the problem. Ok, so the pushrods are $10 at O'Reilly's, but what about new lifters? $100 or better? $10 in exhaust gaskets just saved over $100 in unnecessary parts. See what I'm saying?
