when my car warms up i get a ticking sound off and on at idle or lower rpms. not at high. it sounds like is coming from the thermostat area. would a bad thermostat make this noise??

nope

Could be an exhaust leak or some top-end noise, though

it helps to get a long screwdriver and put it up to your year. Use it like a stethoscope. Check around the headers and all around the valve covers. Where it's loud is where your noise is coming from.

good luck

Are you leaking any fluids?

Sounds like it might be the water pump...

Yeah, if bad, the pump would leak through the weap hole. I was thinking maybe a bearing in the pump or something.

It could be an injector, a loose bolt on the exhaust, any number of things.

I guess, if you have the stock thermostat neck, put it back on and see if it goes away.
