What are some of you guys thoughts on window tinting on the classics. It almost seems taboo to me. That said the hot OK sun is bad on the interior. I was thinking about tinting the 67
I agree, i wouldn't mind tinting the rear window but i dont think any of the side one's ; i believe its illegal to have tints on the side more than like 30% or something so i wouldn't do it and just having those small quarters... that looks dumb imo.
But... the sun does take it's tole on the package tray, mine is sun beaten pretty badly.
I think it would look ok if you used the light tint, medium or dark/limo tint would make it look too ricey...IMO
There is an almost clear tint available for houses that blocks quite a bit of the UV light and a decent amount of heat but is 95% +- clear. A couple of my customers have used it on their houses to reduce Infra-red heat gained through their windows...works pretty good and you can barely tell its on there.
That is what I'm gonna use for the 66.
I did all mine except the windshield. 30% all around. Nothing too dark but noticeable. If you do try to tint the old glass make sure you polish it first otherwise you'll be like me and have to redo all of it becuase of scratches and whatnot.....
Liking the lighter colored tints. My car is black and my interior is black so it will/should appear darker anyway.
? What is the best ways to polish out the scratches? I do have a few and was curious if there is a compound to use? I do have a buffing wheel and dremel. Any help would be much appreciated.
Yeah I like a light tint, like 35% on the back and 35-50% on the sides. One important thing to remember about tinting the back windows on these old cars is that your reverse lights are pretty anemic, and it's hard to see backing up at night. I put fog lights on the back of mine, solved that problem.
I think that whether tint looks good depends on the car. I was considering tinting the windows on my car and noticed that I have some scratches in the door glass that did not buff out with #0000 or #000 steal wool. Does anybody know if a glass polish or other compound will remove scratches and whether they show up more or less after tinting?
I don't recall the name of the tint but that is probably the same type stuff I refered to above, you can use it in a house to acheive the same effect as Low-E windows (lower the amount of ultraviolet light and heat transfered through the glass). It is almost clear and works good, at least in a house with a western face with alot of glass it drastically reduces the amount of heat dumped into the house from the sun.
I have 35% on mine and glad I did it, keeps the black interior a lot cooler in the summer. Even looking through back and side windows you can still see through.
The 35% looks good, not too dark. I'll have to check the laws here in NC to make sure I'm not hassled by 5.0. I like the all around tint but I believe the level of tint allowed it different for different windows (windshield, front windows, rear, etc...).
bnickel - thanks for the link, that is exactly what I need. Looked at the cost of new glass, holy crap is new glass expensive. I don't think you can feel the scratches so that polish should work fine. Thanks!
