I always get a kick out of the 1/4 mile guys. You hit 120/130 and freak. I enter turn one at Cal speedway at 155 and sustain 145 through turn one and two. Turn 8 at Willow springs is a sustained 140. A pebble at 130 does not put you in the ditch. In stock form the SN95 does generate quite a bit of lift over 120. somewhere in the 300 lb range. Add in a front splitter, Rear wing and a defuser and the cars are good to 200+. Granted you need 600+ HP to get 200+ but the cars will do it. Just never do it on the street or highway. Always run on a closed corse with all the safety equipement.

You can see where at about 5230 RPM it takes more force to push the vehicle than is available at the wheel.

170mph in a basically stock horsepower car....not unless you were being pushed by a Z06 after 140mph!

must have been me

my car doesn't do much more than 175-180, so this is impossible, and I have topped out a PI 2v car, or two, over the years. The stock speedo is not that accurate, and you can't get anywhere near that with 240-270rwhp.

Did you forget to recal your speedo or something?

There is no way in hell you hit 170, n/a, especially in a brick-of-a-car-called-a-Mustang. Don't get me wrong, but it isn't like a Mustang is the most aerodynamically designed car. I did 145 in my car, full bolt ons (no cams), and it was getting spooky at that point. To tell me you did 25mph more calls for the

Winters' Vette barely gets that high, and his car is superior to the Mustang in every away (power/weight, aero, etc).

some of you are funny. I've had mine up to 150mph on several occasions, all in the middle of the night on a clear freeway with no entrances for miles and miles. And up to 130-ish on a road course several times. That's bone stock except for tires. The car was fine. In fact, the faster I went, the more stable it felt. No supercharger, so can't help the OP.

If your car feels unsafe over 100, then by all means don't go that fast before you get it fixed. If the car feels fine but you get scared, then don't go that fast yourself. It's a rational fear. The fear is mostly unwarranted, but bad things happen quick at that speed. Some of us regularly drive 80-90 mph just getting to work in traffic (Chicagoland commute) and that's surrounded by cars going the same speed. 130mph blasts on an open freeway late at night is arguably safer for all involved

Consider the mass of the better part of two tons barrelling down a road. In order to "toss it in the ditch," you'd have to have a force capable of affecting that almost two tons. Inertia laughs at a little rock in the road given the kind of force being applied at that speed. Mass times velocity says that rock had better be pretty damn big before it's going to make a damn bit of difference in the trajectory of the car.

Thanks for your opinions, I respect ‘em, but I don’t agree with all of them (i.e. “…top speed is a childhood stat, something that matters when you don't know a lot about cars…”. I respect it, anyway).

I run the car in 2001 (with aprox. 10.000 miles in the odometer, totally stock, except for a K&N air filter) at 154 mph GPS measured, in a clear winter morning, clear freeway with no entrances, for about 5 miles. The car was fine and easy to drive in that conditions.
Recently, I was invited to turn in a local speedway, and the Mustang (supercharged) was fine too, but I didn’t run over 150 mph at anytime.

If I would suppose that I can go faster than 150mph safely, with stock tires, no chassis, brake or suspension mods… I just push gas pedal and see what happens…. But I don’t have suicidal tendencies.

Now, I only wanted to know, if somebody hit top speed with a supercharged 4.6 (or other mods that give 400+ hp). I guess that other parts wouldn’t be bone stock.

Thanks again for all of you guys!!!

PD: excuse me for my English, it isn’t very good.

Thinks to consider...you didn't specify whether it was the KB base kit (which is non intercooled and rated at considerably less horsepower), or their intercooled kit (which even though advertised at 400hp, generally makes closer to 370-380hp). This is of course if you're talking wheel horsepower?

One thing to consider with a Twin Screw, or any positive displacement type blower is heat. Even intercooled, you won't be able to sustain top speed power levels for more than a few seconds before ACT's climb and the computer as a result pulls timing and horsepower drops.

In any case....pushing a Mustang to 170+ with 400rwhp on tap seems to be quite doable. Generally though, after about 170mph, the limits of the Mustangs aerodynamic design are tested and its higher drag coefficient is going to require considerably more power to reach higher speeds.

True words Brian. if we wanted to really get this going we should compare the gt500 to the FGT, Power/weight/aero

BS. 170 mph with 3.73s? I don't know the math but I don't think that is possible. Even if it is stock mustangs top out around 150. Sorry man. Everyone here owns mustangs, there is no need to lie to us. Didn't the 385hp Cobra R top out around 175 with 100 more hp then a GT and the areo aids.

Having the RPM and having the HP or 2 different things.

The texas mile is completely different. It's really cool, but you need 600-700hp to hit 170-175, if not more, in the texas mile in a stang.

you should be going 174.32 mph with some math figures, You might need to clean the airfilter up real nice

Again, BS. Unless your car was dropped from a C130, going down a mountain, or fell off a cliff, no one believes you.

The texas mile is completely different. It's really cool, but you need 600-700hp to hit 170-175, if not more, in the texas mile in a stang.

Never going to happen. Does not add up.

Stock tires with 3.73:1 4500 RPM = 137-138 MPH

Stock tires with 3.27:1 4500 RPM = 157 MPH

Stock tires with 3.73:1 5460 RPM = 167 MPH
