traction control on new mustangs

what is the deal with this, i always see the little button for it in the newer mustangs, how exactly does it work, would it help for launching or would it hurt more than help?

my camaro friends *cough* hate it what it does is it lower the timing of the car to prevent you from spinning sometimes it bogs and cuts off too so i dont think its a good idea.
