Does anyone else have trouble refueling when it's cold out? The other morning the pump kept clicking off instantly like it was full when I only had a quarter of a tank in it.

turn the nozzle 90 degrees counterclockwise should solve your problem

He's serious. A lot of 05-up Mustangs suffer from this defect. Ford does not have a permanent solution.

I actually had that problem in my 2000 on occasion and in my ex's Pontiac Grand Prix.

I've never had that problem in my 2000 Crown Vic or the 2003 E-250. In fact the other time I refueled my Vic, the gas tank was almost empty and it was frigging cold. The Vic just guzzled down the gas like there was no tomorrow.

I filled my 07 GT with an almost empty tank in the summer, and it kept spitting out gasoline. I turned the nozzle and it filled but didn't stop in time, spraying gasoline all over the car!

i had the same problem and took it to the dealer. there is a TSB for the problem. they will just swap out the tank. if you look around the site you will find the TSB. good luck.

I take the hose out wait a second and shove the damn thing till the bellows are completely compressed and it works. Had no idea this was a common problem.

I recall all 07-up getting the revised tank, but it still does not solve the problem.

I found a pump that seems to work every time. Once the gas starts to flow I’ll hold it wide open... if I let it slow down or stop it’s hard to get it to flow fast again. Clicks off every time. Maybe I’m nuts but fueling up early in the mornings when it’s cooler it doesn’t seem to do it. Turning it 90 degrees works every time... and you do get some strange looks.

Some pumps are worst than others, various from station to station. I had an 05, replaced the tank, it helped some. I now have an 07 and have the problem from time to time. Very frustrating. I have not talked with my dealer about the problem with my 07.
Is Ford replacing tanks on all years or just the 05s? Anyone know?

ford is NOT replacing tanks on newer stangs, and will not replace a tank on the early stangs that has been replaced once already. i had the tank swapped in my 05 back in 05. i think it was better the first time around! from the TSB, ford claims replacing the tank in the newer models or one that has already been replaced will not improve the problem, and it will not be covered under warranty.

you only have to turn it sideways not upside down since i started doing that haven't had a single problem.

I never had this problem with my Black 07... but I do have it with my Grabber Orange 07. I usually just start with the pump up-side-down and I don't pump at full speed. It sucks, but I'm not taking it back to the dealer for this and get crap for my mods.

I never fill at max speed. It clicks off as soon as the fuel starts to pump. I blame the filler neck design.

When I'm at my usual station in town, I go to a specific pump. I tried other pumps at the station that were just awful--it would take forever to fill the tank, and sometimes fuel would drip out onto the ground. At this pump, it fills just fine. When the nozzle shuts off, the fuel gauge needle is right at the full line.

When out of town, I have to take my chances!
