well me and dad went to change the spark plugs and the first one on the right side was horrible. This is what happened. he went to put the socket on it and it wouldnt turn and it ended up getting stuck on the plug. we think its hitting something . Also, the left side turning signals dont work. The lights work (braking and parking and such) but doesnt blink. Any suggestions to what to check first? Any help would be appricated.

Did you eventually get it off or not? Check to see if you have enough clearance around the manifolds for the socket to fit and turn, i had to file some of the manifold away to get it to fit and turn right, these parts arent exactly perfect ya know (being 30+ years old) As for the turn signals, are we talking about the rear, front or both. Do the easy things first, check bulbs, contacts (may be a ground problem) and wiring to see if anything is not right (loose wires, cracked or worn etc.)

yea after about 5 minutes of tuggin and pullin it came off.. granddad said tha if we coud find a thinner socket it would do just fine. for the lights, both the rear and the front left side doesnt blink.

Maybe get your multimeter out and check the readings at the flasher unit?

BTW, the flasher unit is located close to the fresh air vent on the drivers side under the dash, it should just be hanging there. Also if you have erratic blinking (i.e. not constant, or not happening) this is an easy (cheap) thing to replace.

check the fuzes, bulbs (they are dual element), turn signal switch, wiring.


that should keep you busy for awhile.

one more thing, the left quarter panel window, when you crank it down, it just drops to the bottom and i gotta get out and pull it up manually. is it off track? im gonna be lookin today after school and shampooing the carpet and stuff.

Sounds like the roller may have broken and need replacing. Theyre pretty cheap (~1$ ea).

Just as an FYI, they do make a special socket head for plugs, and I would recommend it. It has a thinner wall to it and also has a nice rubber bushing inside so you don't crack the porcelean when they are stubborn.

If your flashers aren't the probelm and you wires and fuses seem OK, then there is a good chance that the signal CAM in your steering wheel is broken or shot. These things are rather fragile and commonly just snap. I do not reccomend you get the cheap repair kit if it is broken, you could end up having to fix it again sooner than desired. Spend the couple extra dollars and get a new turn signal CAM to replace it, you'll be better off.

usually, if the turn signal is steady, but not blinking, that means you have a light burned out and the electrical circuit is not complete. That is how they wired the system to warn you that you have a light out.

I agree with that, once we fired up the scoop turn signals and they stayed on, didn't blink for a left turn, and it turns out our left tailight was out.

Its a cool feature to have

alright, well my dad took a regular socket and grinded it down and it worked liek a charm thanks for the help yalll

Try the rest of the tips on finding a bad ground or bad wiring on the turn signal before you get into the cam in the column. If you do have to get into the column, you may have to replace the plastic horn retainer if it gets an ear broke off. If your horn is sitting crooked, this is whats happened. Only reason I'm saying this is that if you get the cam before you take it apart, you might accidently break the plastic retainer (if you're luck is anything like mine). When I got my last one I bought two, LOL!!!
