Its has to do with your evaporative emissions system. The canister purge valve controls the flow of fuel vapors out of the evaporative emission canister.
Its located near the ac accumulator close to the firewall on the passenger side. It will be inline with a vacuum hose coming from your passenger inner fenderwell to your intake manifold. Its a small cylinder shaped solenoid with an electrical connector going to the bottom of it.

I use the SCT Xcalibrator2 in my 96 and really like it.

i went and bought a haynes repair book. its nice to have.
i want to fix the problem before i do any programming to it but it is the first thing i will do. how do the 03 heads and the 99 intake work? are they worth putting on.
this is my first 4.6, ive had a 92 and a 94 both with 302's but i dont know a lot about the mod motors. i also have a 67 that im building a 331 stroker for, so money is a bit of an issue so if i could get stock heads and intake for a reasonable price it would be nice. i just want the cobra to be faster than normal but not crazy. if you have any ideas let me know .

and thanks again

I personally wouldn't put the money and labor into the swap. Maybe gain 20rwhp in naturally aspirated form, be making power similar to a mach 1. You could have your cylinder heads ported, pretty much in the end all the 4.6 4v heads flow near the same cfm. I just wanted something a little different and with the stock heads/cams and intake manifold I could hit my goal of 800rwhp with them.

I would presonally stick with the basic mods so it doesn't become a money pit and will still be fun to drive. Gears, full exhaust, programmer, I don't like underdrive pulleys though.
