Nope, I had a car in the 80s that was missing its data plate too. Could be that the door was replaced at some point in the last ~38 years, that was the case with that old one of mine. You should be able to track down the details and have one made though.

If your car was just one year newer Kevin Marty could have helped you out. Just about all the 65-66 records were destroyed in 67' though. Not sure who if anyone would have an archive of this info?????? What assembly plant was it from? If it's dearborn I think some woman owns the records from that plant on all years. I could try to find her name for you.

It's easy enough to have a door plate made up. A little bit of examining your car will turn up the missing data. You will need to know things such as the body style, what kind of interior is in it, the rear axle ratio, transmission type etc.

You might try looking for a build tag behind the instrument cluster... I've found two back there in the past... it will be wrapped around the underdash harness.

OK, well you may be in luck then. I'll go thru my MM issues tonite and see if I can find her info. I seem to remember the name Lois, but not sure.

I hear you about figuring out what is original and what isn't. Sure getting a tag made up is easy, but finding out what info should be on the tag, eh, not so much.

LOL, most don't care. You want that deluxe interior/exterior to be original? MAke up a new data plate and "age" it appropriately

So, is that what you are hoping to find when you're looking at a potential car to buy? A dishonest PO?

BTW, I just found the info/person I was thinking of online, but looks like I was wrong about the info in her possesion. Anyway, i say you have absolutley nothing to lose by asking her anyway. Who knows what could come about from it?

You could probably come up with all the original information with a little bit of research. For those items you can't determine, think of it as an opportunity to specify what you would like on your data plate!
