Theres been alot of talk at my school about these 'uberEUROcars' and how amazing they are. i will admit and do respect their 240hp AWD power and sleek look, but i still wanna run against one. obviously i would get owned off the line with him getting 240hp at all 4 corners.. but from a roll? ihave a 93 LX 5.0 with 3.73's, b303, flowmasters, and removed air silencer. im not saying my car can own everyone on the street (as would a civic with a CAI), but ithink it would be awful close from a roll.

consider my estimated 220 hp/2800lbs vs his 240hp/3400lbs.

oh- and HPM mega bite jr LCA's are going in before the race, which should help out just a bit

Have you actually weighted your car? 2800 sounds a couple hundred lbs light. Those cars are pretty quick, i've driven a friends around a couple times and i was impressed. I think its at least slighty faster car, but it'll prolly come down to a drivers race.

yeah man- i thought my car was weighing in at about 3100, but i went to edmunds and checked out the curb weight and its 2834. as well as there is no spare wheel - so i MIGHT have just broke into the 2700's :]

-- just incase no one believes me. here are the specs for my 1993 LX 5.0 Hatch: http://www.edmunds.com/used/1993/fo...tml?tid=edmunds.u.prices.leftsidenav..6.Ford*

I think your weight and horspower are way off. I would think you are no more than 190rwhp and 3000lbs at the most. But who cares just go race him. If it's not for money then you got nothing to worry about. Let us know how it goes!

I really doubt you are at that weight unless you have done tons of weightloss mods. Even with that it is hard with a full interior.

I bet if you get an intake manifold you will have more of a chance. It woulud be a very close race because he does lose power to the AWD system in the upper speeds while your intake and heads will hold you back at the same point. Hard decision.

You race that car and you will get an education.

The VW R32 is a serious performance car. Don't think that because it has AWD that's going to soak up so much power it won't still flat out haul ass....for what it is.

I respect that car because it IS a real nice, powerful car. It handles great and has great brakes (both things the fox Mustang can't claim to have - not stock anyway).

And it's a great car for 2 kinds of people. The first is the guy that is going to buy it and maybe put a a couple bolt on performance parts on it. Exhaust, maybe a wastegate, simple stuff. The other guy has more money than brains and will go all out. That'll cost a fortune, but someone needs to feed the economy and if this dufuss has the cash to blow, let him.

Now the beauty of the Mustang is it can be faster and handle just as well for less money, BUT you have to work for it. Out of the box, there is no comparing the cars. It's not even apples to oranges. It's like....apples to space aliens.

But take a R32 and $10,000 and take a Foxbody and $10,000 and let's see which car handles better and is faster in the end. It'd still be close, but I think the Foxbody would edge out the VW. You can add alot more power and handling for your money with the Foxbody. Plus the car is cheaper to buy anyway.

they are quick but I think there reputation is a bit OTT, I've seen one race a Ford Focus RS, it only has 220bhp and fwd. The Focus won.

Yet I have also seen a Focus be beaten by an Escort Cosworth, they are only 14.5 second cars.

So I guess the R32 can only be a high 14 to mid 15 second car, ultimatly not really quick, but then again neither is your car.

Off the line you should have him though, they may be 4wd but I don't think the launch to good, about 6 seconds 0-60mph and 0-100mph in about 15 seconds. Basically they are fat and heavy.

with all due respect, youre wrong. anyone that knows/respects the AWD cars KNOWS that out of the box, domestic RWD get the sheeeeit owned out of em. and R32's are NOT 14-15 second cars.. try mid-high 13's, on street rubber. iknow my chances arent really that great, but im sure ill give em a run for his money. R32's.. fat and heavy, yes - fast? heckkkyes.

oh- and no hard feelings on this post, im just getting facts straight so it doesnt cause an uproar in the the stangnet community- leading to the collapse of this exquisite website.. and no one wants that, now do we?

No matter what it's still a VW. Yes, a lot of these newer cars deserve some respect, however, they just don't have that muscular look, feel or sound, you know? Just me though! Some people really do like fart cans!

With a little more breathing on your top end and some bite you will take him.

With your gears, and torque, its going to give you a good chance. I dont know much about the R32 I will admit, but I can say that yes AWD does launch hard, but a built RWD with good tires and lots of torque would launch much harder. No car has the potential of a 5.0.

They're not that heavy at 3330 lbs.
Do 0-60 in 5.8 seconds
Run the 1/4 in 14.1 @ 99 mph

This is all from Road & Track's Volkswagen R32 Test

After readignthe article, if you can drive even half way decent you can take this car stock without too much trouble. It's not the powerhouse I was lead to think it was.

The muscle car feel, sound etc. etc. all falls into one thing that no import, lambo, bmw, etc. has.

Torque.

Yeah but when you race one, you dont race it through the corners heh. It always comes down to straight line races.

Haha you should be able to take that thing no prob. A geared 5.0 with a good driver is a mid 13 sec car.
