What body style is it? That way we can eliminate the hatch seal or not and help you better. I personally had wet carpet in the rear footwells also. I traced it up the corner (behind the bottom seatbelt attach point) and then felt that the seat was a bit damp/cold. From there I could see that water had at one time puddled in the little pockets nest to the rear seat bottom. I've a notch, so I started checking at the quarter windows & re-sealed them.
I personally wouldnt silicone it from the inside, chances are it wouldnt work and you just wasted alot of time pulling plastics and made a mess. You could use butyl tape not recommended but will work. I would pull the window and clean the old butyl tape off and use the black urethane sealant in a tube. Since your trading the car park it under something to keep it dry until you trade it, why put money and time in a car you're trading in??
Yes it does have a sun roof. It leaks from the hinges a little and the seal has hairline cracks around the whole seal. I plan on replacing that seal as well if I am going to order the other seals anyway.
Have you taken the back seat out yet, the bottom? Real easy if you haven't. If it's coming from the qtr window, then there WILL be a wet trail anywhere from the bottom of the b-pillar to the back corner of the seat bottom. If it was the door glass, the water would drip down the inside of the door and drain out the bottom, outside the car. Unless your run channel is REALLY cracked int he top corner and the rain was pouring down. I'd check the door seal with a hose first since that is easier than removing the interior plastic to seal the qtr glass. Open the door on the wet side and wipe dry the whole jamb/seal. Cloes the door and run the hose ariound the top and sides of the door seal for a few minutes. You will most likely be able to see where the water may be getting past the seal once you open the door to inspect from the inside.
You dont have a sunroof, do you?...not sure if it was an option in '93
I was thinking of just pulling the carpet entirely out and spray water in certain areas to see where it would possibly be coming from. I don't want to end up replacing parts I don't need because I plan on trading this car in the next couple of weeks.
Chances are, it's the sunroof drain tubes.
There are 4 drain tubes. 2 in the front and 2 in the rear. The rear ones go down the B-pillar and exit the body just behind the doors. If you look under the car, you will see the two small drain openings.
Usually the tubes crack or split or clog and leak.
SO really, you gotta pull the rear seat and rear quarter plastics and inspect. I bet if you poured water into the sunroof "moat" you might find the source of the leak with the panels removed
Ok now I know it's not a factory sunroof. I just pulled the lower rear quarter panel plastics on both sides and there is no drain hoses any where. Also I ruled out Quarter windows leaking because it's been raining like crazy and there is no water signs in that area its very dry. I pulled the carpet back in that area to see if it would have signs off the rain water coming in and nothing. Back seat frame rails also dry. The only thing I can think of is door to body molding is leaking what you think.
