am i reading the press reports right? NO COBRA till 2006 as a 2007 model? i can see waiting till summer og 2005 but come on!!! why the long wait,i hope not to inflate the demand for a snake, making it nearly impossible for the average working person. will the cobra have a live rear axle like the 05 GT?? what are all the cobra buyers gonna do,buy a 05 gt and then trade it in and lose thier butt to get the cobra??

That's correct.

From everything I have read, the new Cobra will debut in '06 as an '07 model. It will have IRS as well, and should be a great car. I think it will be well worth the wait, but I also think the Mustang GT is going to be a great car. I won't be in the market again until '08 probably, so I don't have to make that choice. I'm saving for the SVT, no question.

Remember this: Good things come to those who wait.

The 07' Cobra will have IRS and of course a lot more power. Ford's probably still working on the Cobra getting it ready for a sneak peek in summer 05'. It's a long time away but I think it'll worth waiting for.

From the sounds of it, also plan on the cobra being $10K higher than the current model on the market.

Good things come to those who wait.

Sounds like Ford has got things pretty much right.
No 1 priority is the V6 Mustang ... most people HERE would say underpowered, but thats where the volume is in the real world and thats what pays the tooling/factory/engineering overhead.
N0 2 priority would be the v8 GT, figure 1/3 of sales.
No 3 priority is the Cobra ... finally getting a car above 300 HP and the handling of an IRS. If it takes a few years ...well, take care of the "Real" mustang volumes first.

People forget that they buy a Mustang Cobra .... but the real volume of the car is the V6 ... and thats what most mustangs are about.

(Funny ... could have sworn the press materials said that customer research "demanded" no IRS on a mustang, need that drag strip performance cue, wouldn't have it any other way ... but every one says it will be on the ultimate performance varient. Maybe the honest answer was engineering resources and saving probably $300 a unit from day one?)

Latest "rumor" is 400HP+ N/A V8 for the Cobra.

Since it is still 2+years out things could change. 2004 to 2007 is too big of a gap IMO, but not as bad as 2002-2007 like the Camaro

at least there will be a 400HP GTO and 425HP Hemi 6.1L Charger to fight off the Imports until then.

ouch, i hope that is false since $45k-$50k would be too much for me.

no lightning either until 07, makes you wonder what they are doing over at SVT for the last year.

I could of sworn i read somewhere that the reason for the Cobra hiatus is that Ford is looking to move the Cobra into BMW M5 territory. This isn't to say its going to cost the same as an M5, but be the performance equivalent. I think from what people have been posting that Ford looked at it this way:
V6 for the masses (<20k)
V8 GT for more fun and sounds (around 26K)
BOSS or Mach1 for the Enthusiasts (Around 34K)
Cobra for Ultimate performance at a Corvette price. (Around 40K)
It only makes sense if that is were the Cobra is heading. Like someone said before, its a long way off.

Thought that was M3 territory, since the M5 is a sedan.

SVT can't do anything until Team Mustang (whatever they are called) gets their act together. A late production change in the chassis can slip a lot of plans. As long as it comes out right from the box, they can wait.

Someone posted on Stangsource that he was just at a 2005 Stang showing where there was a Ford engineer. The engineer said that the Cobra would be introduced as a 2007 model in mid 2006 (this is the same story that we have heard many times before).

The engineer also said that the Cobra will have a 5.4L S/C engine rated @ 450 HP. He did not say which heads, but I'll bet that they will be the 3V heads with a twin screw S/C. I'll also bet that the 450 HP is a VERY conservative # and they will really put out close to 500 HP at the crank.

The current Cobra already is above 300HP at 390, and has IRS. So, "finally" is not accurate. What is accurate is, finally IRS on a chassis designed for IRS, not shoehorned in.

And, someone else suggested a higher price tag of 10k. What I think they meant was 10k over the GT for a loaded Cobra Vert. The GT will be 3-5% higher than 2004 GT's according to Ford; it would be safe to assume the Cobra will be 3-5%, possibly 7% higher than 2004 Cobras.

I hope thats not the case. If the Cobra aproaches $45,000 i'd much rather have the new 2005 C6 Vette for the same price.

I'm really not biased toward any brand or anything, but in my opinion, the only thing the Cobra has on a vette is affordability, and it was well worth it in 2003 - 2004 10000 less then the base vette, but why would SVT take there Cobra and put it in the same price range as the Vette?? it doesn't make sense to me. The reason why I'd rather have the Vette in the case that its 10,000 more then the year before is because its handling is quite amazing and the new C6 is going to be just as quick as the Z06 and there only jacking the base price a minor amount. So if ford thinks they can get the same price for their cobra as the new vette they are gonna loose sales to the new vettes.

The are putting all SVT resources into the Ford GT. If it wasn't for that car the new lightning would be out now and the Cobra would probably be out next spring/summer

Yup,, and the Z51 C6 will probably be faster than the current Z06. Base price is going yup $1000 (which is on par with inflation). The Mustang just isn't a Corvette caliber car, even with 500HP I don't think it should cost over $39,995. Mustang has always been about value and low cost performance.

Sorry, when I said "Finally", i was refering to having those features on the NEW platform. I am aware that the older version is there, but was talking about the priorities in launching the new platform, launching the V6 / V8 and then "Finally" a few years later launching the Cobra.
Maybe I should have said "Finally" having a current model year new car on the showroom floor available for consumers to purchase .... but thought it was implied.
