Sorry, when I said "Finally", i was refering to having those features on the NEW platform. I am aware that the older version is there, but was talking about the priorities in launching the new platform, launching the V6 / V8 and then "Finally" a few years later launching the Cobra.
Maybe I should have said "Finally" having a current model year new car on the showroom floor available for consumers to purchase .... but thought it was implied.

Gotcha.. it's all good.

The engineer also said that the Cobra will have a 5.4L S/C engine rated @ 450 HP. He did not say which heads, but I'll bet that they will be the 3V heads with a twin screw S/C. I'll also bet that the 450 HP is a VERY conservative # and they will really put out close to 500 HP at the crank.

Why would Ford go with the 3V heads on a limited-edition Cobra, when they already have proven 4V heads for the 5.4L that outperform them?

It's all about cost. It's also about the physical dimensions of the engine. I really believe we will see the same powerplant in both the SVT Lightning and the SVT Mustang, most likely a 3V 5.4 with a screw type supercharger. Ford wants to move away from the more-expensive-to-produce 4V configuration, except for more limited production vehicles such as the GT(40).

Would you rather have a DOHC 4V 4.6 or a 5.4 SOHC 3V? Give me displacement.

The are putting all SVT resources into the Ford GT. If it wasn't for that car the new lightning would be out now and the Cobra would probably be out next spring/summer

Yup,, and the Z51 C6 will probably be faster than the current Z06. Base price is going yup $1000 (which is on par with inflation). The Mustang just isn't a Corvette caliber car, even with 500HP I don't think it should cost over $39,995. Mustang has always been about value and low cost performance.

As usual what a crock of crap...The new mustang is leagues better in fit and finish. Far superior to the corvette platform. They can demand a price equivalent or higher to a corvette if they deliver on quality/performance/looks which im sure they will do.

I don't think anyone, even Ford, can comment on fit and finish of the new stang until MASS production starts. When you have individually assembled vehicles, people have the luxury of paying more atttention to detail, they have more time as they are not worrying about getting 1,000 units off the line before lunch. Especially the ones at shows. When Ford is going to show a new vehicle at a show, you can bet your a$$ that they make sure every detail is nothing short of perfect.

As far as the Vett goes, I don't think you can compare the two. For one, the Vette is a Sports car; the Stang is a muscle car. For example, the vett will more than likely always out handle the Mustang as it is designed to be a sports car, not a muscle car. Two different animals.

Two: as someone esle stated, the Stang has always been about low cost performance for the masses. It's their core philosophy that literally spans decades and is the cornerstone of the Mustangs success.

Heh, everything being the same, if I were going to buy one of the new style, I'd buy a GT, sell the 4.6, convert a used 5.4 to DOHC and bolt on some 4V heads. I like to mod my cars, and I'd feel terrible about tinkering with a Cobra.

The biggest problem would be modifying/fabbing an intake manifold to work with that combo. Is Sean Hyland selling them yet?

The good part is that the Cobra won't require much tinkering...

Even if it would cost you about 4,000 extra bucks to work out the kinks and build it to produce the same hp as a 4valve 4.6L?

Thats the equivalent of the 5.4L DOHC vs 4.6L DOHC.

Read that huge 25+ page thread on corral about boss's experiences. He'll lie about his own experiences to sell built engines but he talks about all his problems on that thread. He spent many thousand dollars getting that engine to rev to 7000

I also remember hearing about how the customers wanted a live axle instead of IRS for drag racing and how the new cobras with not have IRS

Has anyone heard about speacial addition models? Boss,Elenour, mach?
any of these on plan and for when?

Also why would you want a c6 over a 450-500 hp cobra?? i mean come on the c6 look imo ****ty as hell + even if they are making more power thant he previous z06 thats still right in the are of the supposed # for the new cobra and its a cobra

I have been to the Corvette Assembly plant in Bpwling Green, KY. The fit and finish of these cars are excellent, but that comes from it being the second slowest line built car in the world. They take a lot of time and thus don't produce the number of cars the Ford does with the Mustang, but the cars they produce are quality. I have always liked the Corvette, but as stated earlier, Corvette vs. Mustang is comparing 2 different animals, get one of each..... As for bang for the buck, give me my good ole trusty Mullet Chariot!

Simple, with 70 Less hp the C5 vette (Base vette not the Z06) is just as quick as a 03-04 Cobra but blows it away in handling, so the reason why i'd want the Vette over a cobra in the event that they were the "SAME PRICE" you'd be getting more for your money with the Vette. As of now there is not enough info to make an educated decisiom comparing the two, but the was a rumor that the Cobra will be $10,000 more for the next generation, placing it right at the Vette price range. And No, Ford can not ask the same Price for their Cobra as a vette, the two just arn't on the same level. The Cobra as allways attracted the "Go fast cheap" crowd, and the Vette has allways attracted the "Sporty" crowd. If ford decides to screw us with price with the next Cobra i'm going with a car that has proven its self for many years, think about it, the Cobra has been very sucsessful for 03-04, the 01 Slowbra has a hard time keeping up with a Mach. How many years has a Vette been a proven performer that just keeps getting better for?? I don't care what anyone says, if the Cobra is the same price as the Vette Ford is just gonna help out Vette sales.
