I know a few people from portland-western. Railroads are hard to get on, lots of nepotism involved, and it's definitely a brotherhood of sorts. However, if you get on, and work hard, you are set for life. Nobody in the railroad business complains about being being broke or having crappy benefits! Good luck man.
this is another thing i'm kinda worried about and was thinking as well, that i'd probly have to know someone to get in? but hopefully that wont happen? peace

I didnt mean that you always have to know someone, but it helps. The fact that they called you in for an interview is a good sign.

well went for the interview today with Union pacific and i decided not to take the job, due to the hours and the pay and it's outside work all year long . you got to build up time to get anything decent as far as day's off and shift's, but it would alway's be outside work so if i was to have taken the job in about 10-15 years i might be able to get weekend's off and holiday's as well as be able to be on day shift not the roatating crap! peace
