ok well im looking in to buying a new Distributor for my mustang. i know my stock one wont work or even get me by for a wile because of the Gear material from the 66 and it going in to a 1989 roller block. "this is what ive been told anyway". now im on summit.com and want to know a few thing on some distributors.
1.what rotation do i need?
2. what gear material?
3.some Dizzys i see say VAC/MEC advance. can they be both? what do i want for street use?
thanks

The gear material needs to be steel. You can buy a steel gear for your current distributor and drill it for the punch. Goes straight on and you can run the same dizzy, that's what I did atleast.

That's what I did also for the roller motor in my 89 Ranger. Std points distributor fitted with a steel gear and a Pertronix unit. The gear can be bought thru Summit and changed yourself. Just take your time and read & follow the instructions that come with the gear. I used the Ford Racing gear on mine. I've done two now, they're not hard to do. Once you get it done, grease the gear with a liberal dose of moly grease and stab her in.

You need to Mic it. I know that .531 is for a 351 distributor shaft so it will be one of the smaller ones. Best to use a micrometer though.

The 289 has the smaller diameter shaft,.468 is the diameter if I ain't mistaken.
