What does this look like to you guys - found on the magnet on my oil drain plug

Drained the oil today and found this on the magnet on my oil draing plug. It's very flexible and I have no idea what it might be.

If it's flexible, it's probably just a blob of RTV silicone or gasket sealer that oozed off a gasket and fell into the pan. Nothing to worry about.

Except silicone isn't attracted to a magnet, this is definately metal.

my friend found a piece of metal in his pan just like that! it turned out to be a retainer...

The only thing i could think of that might be flexible in any way but still be magnetic is a piston ring but that doesn't look like piece of a ring. It can't be aluminum because it's not magnetic. That's a good one

My first thought was part of a piston ring, but I'm pretty sure it's not. And it way too flexy for a piston ring.

my guess is sealant of some sort, may have a high metallic content.

i highly doubt gnomes put a piece of metal in your oil pan . if it were me, i'd definately be worrying. what if the next piece you find jams up your oil pump and seizes it? your engine goes bye bye unless you notice you have 0psi for oil right away!

found something just like that in my oil pan when i pulled the 331 apart last winter....turned out to be a peice of the twisted oil pump driveshaft.

Is it possible that it could be some metal flashing or something that might have been in your oil filter that didn't get cleaned out after it was manufactured?

I just can't think of anything that would be flexible but magnetic at the same time that you'd find in an engine.
