bottom end, mid range, and top but seriously, I did read in 5.0 or something that the difference in a set of short tubes and the stock manifolds on a 4.6 2 valve was only good for about 5hp. It hardly seems the effort for a street car. I have a bud with an 03 Cobra and long tubes, he hates them for the street because they always hit.(stock height) but If performance is your thing then the long tubes are probably the way to go.

I've got BBK Tuned Length shorties, gained a whopping 0 hp. Alot of work for nothing..... I intalled them a while ago, when there was no posts/reviews on them. At least others can learn from my mistakes.

Muscle Mustangs and Fast Fords had an article a while back along with 5.0 Mustang on Shorty vs. L/T's.

For the price the shorty's yielded very little performance gain as compared to L/T's. I can't give exact numbers. Also, equal length headers yielded more performance compared to unequal length. I think the total gain from equal length L/T's was around 15-25 HP where as the shorty's were about 3-10 HP. Unequal shorty's yielded like 2 HP.

Shorties - Can retain midpipe, ie you can put the cats on if need be, will have ZERO clearance issues, can install and remove tranny just as if they weren't there. May or maynot pick up power. I gained 20rwhp with FRPP shorties.
Mid's - Limited selection of mid pipes, limited selection of headers, USUALLY no clearance issues.
LT's - Usually highest rwhp gain, some clear for tranny removal, but not all, decent selection of midpipes and headers available. Some people have clearance issues, ie speed bumps, driveways etc, however I know at least 2 people on lowered suspension cars with them that have had no issues.
