I have a 95 GT and have no idea of what kind of clutch and pressure plate to put in. I have been told the best bet would be "King Cobra Pressure Plate" with a McCould Half Carbon clutch. Any advice would be appreciated.
I actually run an autozone clutch, I want to stay away from realy strong clutches right now on the stock t5. The reason is well I want the clutch to be the weak link not the trans. I would rather blow a clutch that has a 100% lifetime replacement than a $1,000+ trans. Now when the t5 does blow and I get a tko well I vote a centerforce or spec. I have had two buds blow 3 king cobra clutches, one shatering the disk.
Oddly the autozone clutch lasted 3years with 125 shot of n2o at the track, alot of track runs. and me not being easy on it at all, in fact the only reason it failed was the input shaft bearing failed causing uneven wear on the disk/plate.
I have the FRPP heavy duty clutch and it seems to be holding up fine. I talked to a guy at Powered by Ford in Florida and he recommended this one over the King Cobra. For the money, you can't beat it. Be sure to get a new clutch cable and quadrant while you're at it.
I installed the FRPP Heavy Duty in buds car.....I thought it was a nice set-up and had nice clutch feel to it.....I dont care for monster clutch feel....I like em easy, sorta like chicks...
I would recommend a centerforce dual-friction, or a SPEC stage III. Both have featherweight pedal pressures. The stage III SPEC has grip that is absolutely unreal. My friend, who had destroyed countless clutches in his daily driven 95GT, finally found this clutch to be stong enough for his everyday drive it like you stole is style. The centerforce dual-friction clutches seem to grip comparable to my stage II kevlar SPEC, just without the stiff pedal pressure. Either would be great for a daily driven stang, and should give room to grow with new mods.
I would say go with the FRPP Heavy Duty, it has a nice pedal feel without a lot of pressure needed to engage. $175 is a good price, I think I got mine for $169 from Powered by Ford in Florida.
well ive heard opposite of those with the FRPP HD clutches. I run a king Cobra, supposbly same thing with 40% less pedal effort and being my daily driver im quite glad...Altho im still gettin some chatter , but that could just be the way i drive. King Cobra feels awesome, and when i got the car the stock clutch wasn't really grabbing so i dont have much to compare it too, ive had it in i guess for about only 1k miles now
