I think that 14* is a good starting point, then increase 2* at a time. When you get some pinging drop back 1 or 2 degrees. Makes a big difference in feeling.

14* should be fine as long as your not pinging. A lot of people here set it at 14*.

you can go as high as 15, as long as you use 93 octane, here's an easy way to look at it:

the higher the compression
the higher the timing
the higher octane gas you'll need
stock motor, 15 degrees with high octane fuel
I'd say 13 degrees with regular 87 octane

Run the 14 degrees with good fuel.

Very unlikely. As it is, our cars have a tendency to ping on 89 with 10* timing.

I just checked my timing last weekend out of curiosity, I was at 18 degrees!!!! no pinging, but its 20 degrees here so the engine runs cool.

That's a lot of advance. Sure your balancer isn't spun a little?

Don't know, I do have 162,000 miles. I dynoed 246rwhp and 306rwtq with timing at 14 degrees, then I ran 14.15 with 18 degrees, wondering if that much advance is hurting me?

I never had any trouble in the summers running 14 degrees, so I don't doubt that I'm at 18 degrees now in the winter with 20 degree air temps.
