A 5.0, 4.6 2V, or a 4.6 DOHC? Lets assume all 3 have full exhaust (LT's, O/R mid pipe, and catback).

How does the engine being "built" affect exhaust sound?

Ask yourself, what's louder a stock GT, or a GT with P&P heads, Stroker kit, upper and lower Intake and some aggressive cams. I think you know what I mean now.

Uhh..... well a stock 5.0L vs. a stroked and bored 5.0L with a big cam in it is gonna sound quite a bit different. I personally love E/L headers with an o/r h-pipe and super 40's dumped, but these are all opinions. No "one" sounds better than another.

Well my idea of a built motor would be replacing the internals, having nothing to do with heads or cams

BTW, I dont think different heads and intake would affect exhaust note

Not to be a jerk, but are you tone deaf? Just adding an upper Plenum on our 4.6 chages the exhaust tone.

yo Blev, I was looking at your sig and it says you have the redline hood shocks? those are the ones that raise the hood automatically when you lift it? where did you get those and how much were they? i've seen them before and i love them. Also, do they weigh a whole lot? i heard from somebody theyre kinda heavy. thanks bro.

Tone deaf? I can't say that I am. Im sure heads and intake alter the exhaust sound, but not by much at all

Yes, they raise your hood once you lift it to a certain point. You have to be careful though because it will fly up past a certain spot. You can order them from here You can find the price and other info there as well. The install is a breeze if you have a stock hood. It's a bit more challenging with an after market hood. Just gotta find the right spot for them. If you order them I'll send you a quick right up to help you out if you would like. They come with pretty instructions though. As for weight, they don't weigh much at all. Shoot me a PM if you want some more info. You can check out my cardomain site if you want to see some pics of what they look like installed.

Are you serious? What motors are you talking about? I dont know that much about 4.6 SOHC and DOHC motors and how mods affect them, but with a 5.0 you are definately going to get a different sound.....it will still have a 5.0 sound but it will have a "twist" to it. With the same exhaust (long tubes, off road h, flow's for example) and stock motor then h/c/i motor, the h/c/i motor is going to be a lot louder and sound meaner.

More air through the motor = More sound from the exhaust. That simple.

Now back to the poll....it depends on the sound. 5.0's have a really mean growl while the 4.6 motors have a more refined scream. But then again, it depends on the exhaust setup....x or h pipe.....catback...etc. If i could vote 3 times i would cause they all can sound great!

Have you heard a 96-98 GT and a 99+GT? Clost to the same set up, at least the BLOCK is. Different heads and intake, MUCH differant sound.

I agree 110% I love the modular sound too, they can freakin SCREAM if done right. The 5.0 is just deeper and wicked sounding.
