Can anyone tell me what speedo gear I need?? I am not sure on my tranny gear wether it is 7 ot 8 tooth. It is a T5Z FMS 5 speed. I have 285/40/17 tires on the rear and 3:27 gears. My speedo is way off, I can be on a 70 MPH road and when the speedo reads 70 I am passing other cars like they are sitting still.

The T5Z and pretty much all after market T5's have a 7 tooth drive gear and you need a pink speedo gear (19 teeth).

Thanks, I'll have to order one, I need a new throttle cable and clutch cable, the price on the throttle cable is insane!! $99.00, I about fell outta my chair!

I did the math with the conversion calculator and came up with 17.76, my 285/40 tire shows 776 revs per mile, I am guessing I should round up and go with a 18 tooth

I can save ya $15-$20 on that. I have a pink 19T gear sitting on my desk. You can have it for free just PM me your address and I will throw it in an envelope on Monday with a few stamps and send it to ya.
Forgot what it came out of, pretty sure it was my 92. Its in perfect shape though with no wear.

Thanks Laser, I was just about to repost on my figuring and found the correct revs per mile on my tires instead of using a generic tire calculator, I do indeed need the pink gear.

Check this out: Calculators

It showes 17.7 teeth. So a 17 tooth will read just a hair (1-2MPH) faster then you are going and a 19 tooth will be a few MPH under reading.
Ill just send ya both and you can try it out. What I did was use a portable GPS to confirm my speed. Barring that just have a friend in a new unmolested car get to 60MPH and tell you when they are at that speed so you can see how close you are.

I better send it from the post office to make sure I put enough postage on it.

From what I could dig up my tires have 800 revs per mile. I came up with 18.31, The 19 tooth will have me close enough, definitely be a whole lot better than 10 or 12 mph off.

I will do that with the GPS to confirm it. Once I get the gear installed.

Most definitely Laser. Had a friend call today needing some 2x4's to finish a porch for someome, he wanted to pay me for some I had, told him not to worry about it. I'm all about helping someone when I can.

In these times "Pay it forward" is all some of us can do. It's good to see people helping others out!

thumbs up guys!!

oh.... btw...

In my car since I did the SN95 dash, I used the cluster from a 95GT. Since I am using the stock VSS for the speedo, will it be off if i get the correct driven gear for my T5? (i am going to run 255/40/17's and 3.73's and the current trans is a 4cyl T5, says I need a 21 tooth gear) thanks!

I sent the gears out today, should have them before the weekend.
I still think the 17 will be the closest of the two.
