hey guys, I've had my stang for about 2 months now and I have never figured out what this second key is for. It has no chip in it, it is like a key you could get from wal-mart. It says ford on it and is a different cut than the ignition key. It doesn't work in the glove box or any of the exterior locks. Any ideas

If it doesn't work on anything, I'd say scrap it.

I got two keys with my car that look identical. They are both the big black ones with the chip in them.

I also got two of the keyless entry remotes.

Maybe it is a Valet Key?
Only operates the ignition and allows you to leave stuff locked in the trunk.
Is it gray?

maybe just a door key for that little magnetic box that you leave under the fender if you ever lock your black key in the car?

it's for the door, some people put them in their wallet or something they carry on their person all the time in case you lock your main key in the car.

damn, guess I should read a little closer... Maybe it's to a different vehicle, take it to the lot you bought your car from and see if it works in anything else

You're supposed to get 2 of each when you buy a new car. If you didn't, you should go back to the dealer. Keys with the anti-theft chips are like $50 each and they have to be programmed for your vehicle which costs about a 1/2 hour labor. Key fobs are around $125 a piece. If you don't have 2, the dealer owes you another one for $0. Even if you bought it used from a dealership, they still should give you another one at no cost(unless it wasn't a Ford dealer). If you bought it from a private party, I'd go back and ask them where the other key is.

Yes, that is a key chain that separates allowing you to leave your keys in the ignition and take off your house key.

They should give you a spare for free if they are a cool dealership that takes care of their customers. I'd go back and ask them where your other key and key fob is!
