What is this "tick"? Listen when I put the camera right in the front of the valve train

It's been there since I installed the blower as you can hear the exact same noise here:

It's not rod knock, but I'm thinking maybe something with the timing chain or maybe just the noise of one of the s/c pulley?

It's all in your head! Sounds just like the blower churning away :-\ Now that other guy from the UK who posted a few weeks back...his was loud/bad... As long as the car is running fine I wouldn't worry about it.

Does the noise go away after unplugging any certain COP?

I've not tried that. If you're hinting towards knock, it isn't. I really believe it has something to do with the timing chain. That's exactly where the noise is coming from. Oh well, it's going to my mechanic next weekend for new plugs, belt, x-pipe and fuel filter. I'll have him inspect it while it's there to see if it's normal.

I would be leery of that - most mechanics, no matter how "nice" they seem to be, will want to pull it apart and charge you atleast hourly rate until they figure out whats wrong (which they would probably say "Oh, you need all new timing stuff!" or "That's your valve springs, you need all new heads/cams/valves/springs" lol).

Any particular reason why you are not installing that stuff yourself? The only thing I would even consider paying someone to install is the X and that is because I hate doing exhaust work...

Yea there is actually.

#1 reason: it's like 30 degrees out and working in the freezing cold doesn't appeal to me.
#2: the belt job is said to take 2 hours without doing it prior.
#3. fuel filter, although an easy job, I don't feel like ramping the rear, getting fuel all over me, and again, it's fuggin' cold out to be climbing on the ground, under the car lol
#4: the plugs I'd do myself, but again, it's cold out. And don't forget, to access my passenger side plugs, I have to remove the discharge pipe, then the fuel lines, then the COPs, etc. and I don't want to be responsible for a blowout b/c of not torquing them properly.
#5: My mechanic charges me $40/hr for labor. How can complain?!

You don't need to disconnect the fuel lines to get to the plugs. And from what I've read, blow-put happens more when you cross-thread the plugs into the head. But I completely understand you not wanting to do any of that in the cold. Also, I don't hear anything abnormal. To me it sounds like it's the blower noise that I have except quieter probably due to the impeller design differences.

Yea, it's just really Fuggin cold out man and this stuff needs to be done asap. Especially the filter and new plugs.

Make sure to save the old plugs and check their gaps and condition. That would be a quick and easy tell-tell sign if anything abnormal is going on. FYI, fuel filter takes maybe 10 mins. to swap and as long as you have a paper towel, there is not a lot of fuel that comes out.

Take the belt off the vortech and run the car to see if the noise is still there. My bet is on the blower.

I'll have the mechanic save my old plugs. I bet they are disgusting at this point. They went through hell and back with a bad tune and everything. I was supposed to change them out 10k miles ago.

Again, it's not DOING the projects that's making me not do them, it's going outside in the 30-35 degree weather, on a weekend, and freezing my ASS off that's making me go the "easy" route.

It doesn't sound like it's coming from the blower though. That's the thing. It sounds like it's right in the front of the valve train case thing-a-ma-bober. Hopefully my mechanic can go "oooh it's just <insert stupid problem here>, dumbass".

I'm pretty sure it's just the typical blower noise as well. As I said, I have a very similar sound at idle as well on my S-trim...

Well, whatever it is, it's getting progressively more noticeable. I think my timing chain is going. Once I get this looked at, I'll update everyone.

I could hear it. I dont think Ive heard anything like that before. I dont think its coming form the blower because when you reved it up the sound went away and then came back as the rpms settled. I would think if it was the blower it would speed up or would get louder when you reved it.

I keep thinking Im hearing things with my new engine but am not sure too.
