Is it always grounded and when you hit the button it gets power or is it always powered and when you hit the button it gets ground?

The horn has a fuse and a relay. I had to do troubleshooting on mine and I am pretty sure the horn pad sends a ground pulse to the relay (the relay's coil). I think it sends 12 volts to the horn via the relay, but I did not have to go that far (my relay was fine - I was not getting the pulse to the relay).

haha

well i'm trying to swap my horns out for one from a different car and it was sounding really weird. It was kinda screaching so i'm trying to figure out how to make it work

Greg, Before you do all that, I would pop the hood and find the relay for the horn. Use your meter to backprobe the terminals in the relay to figure out what each does. Then either jump the relay (common to N.O. terminal) or use a jumper to trigger the relay. This will allow you to hear the horn.

Since there is a relay, only a couple hundred mA needs to make it to the relay. So either your horn button does it or it doesnt.

I think you might find that your horn still sounds like a sick duck and that the issues lies in the horn itself (likely) or the wiring connection at the horn.

Grady, LOL. I guess there are variations to the honk they make.

If only one of your horns is working (high/low), you will get really funny sounds. I don't know if that could be the problem. What I do know is that the horn button itself acts as a switch on these, closing a circuit. Where most vehicles have a single wire set-up, ours has two.

If anyone knows where I can get a two wire button for an aftermarket steering wheel that would be great.

Yup, try giving the pos wire at the horn 12V pos, and see if it honks. Next give the ground wire a ground signal and see what it does. That will tell you.

thanks for the replys guys but I gave up. Messed with it this morning again and the horn just sounded bad. I was using a jumper box messing with it and after a while it just stoped working so I gave up the idea. I don't have time to mess with it so i'll stick with the stockers
