he might be playin mind games with you, but i dunno. Lets say you can get 4k for ur car. Tell your dad you'll sell it, and buy an aeronose fox for somethin less and use whats leftover to mod it. Once you start modding its much easier to keep goin. actually its kinda addicting. gl

You can get more for that 86 than an 87 is going to cost you, and then you don't have to do all the work and money to do the conversion, nor run the risk of making a mistake somewhere in the electrics and frying this and that, or mistakes in the body, which are costly.

And if you like the 87 exterior better, you'll probably also like the 87 interior better, changing THAT is a PITA.

my brother was goin through the same thing as you. He started thinking that he messed up by buyin an ls1 camaro, when he shoulda saved more and bought a used z06. A week later his new catback went on and hes not thinkin about a vette anymore. So I guess im saying throw something noticible on your car and youll love it again. Like some paint and those flat headlight covers, those are nice.

Dads can be like that sometimes.

My first car was a 87 gt. I wasn't allowed to do much of anything to it except drive and wash it.
I was 16 at that time and a freshman in HS.
The next year in school I was able to get into auto shop. I did alot of work on the car there using there tools out of dads sight.
I worked so I just made purchases thru a friends house then took the parts to school and installed them.

After I had installed 4 or 5 mods from underdrives to heads I showed my dad. At first he was kinda pissed but then after looking he actually saw I was able to do it and do a good job without trashing anything.
Then I told him I had done this over the year of school so that proved it was still dependable.

Your dad might just need you to prove yourself to him.
I'm sure looking back alot of us can say we did something really stupid when we were younger to a car. I know I did.

IMHO I think if u can change the hood to a cowl the ft end may grow on u.
Go by a hood stop by a desent paint shop and ask if they can come close to matching ur cars paint.

Have them paint the hood and while ur dads at work swap it out. Being 100% sure not to scratch or do anything wrong and spend time lining the hood up nice.
When ur dad gets home odds are he will like it if it matches the car.
Or u could just say nothing and see how long it takes him to notice.

I am going to resist bashing on you, but remeber alot of people your age wish they had your car.
My advice is don't get pissed at your Dad just try too sit him down and tell him you have a few ideas for the car, and you would really like him to help you work on it together, if he wants it to be painted the same color, just hold off on it say dad we can paint it later lets do some mods first, then you have a nice strong running car, and when you get older you can do what ever you want to the car.

You may not agree with your dad NOW, but he's right and you will probably appreciate that fact later.

Here is another idea. Your dad is willing to sell his Camaro to get you another car right? And it sounds like your old man has alot more appreciation for the 4eye fox than you do.....so, sell the Z, get your aero nose car and give the 86 keys to dad. You will be happy, dad will be happy and the rest of us will sleep better knowing that a beautiful 86 gets to live on.

Had a similar situation with my parents. They wouldn't let me get a mustang for the longest time. Finally convinced them and then they started getting on my case whenever i spent money to mod the thing. Finally this past winter they got over it and now my dad lets me use the garage whenever i need to install something. Moral of the story is be patient and keep on him about it.
