Whats the best product for engine sluge

Pulled my valve covers off and it has alot of engine sludge in my truck, whats the best thing I can do?

Are you going to remove the heads? If not, I don't know what to tell you .... other than maybe run some Seafoam through there. Run 1/3 can through a vacuum line (like at the brake booster). Put 1/3 of the can in the gas tank (full tank). Put 1/3 in the crankcase. Run that tank of fuel out. Change the oil. See what ya' got.

If you are removing them ..... well, that's easy.

frequent oil changes, and so it while it is hot. That is what I have always done and never had a problem.

Ages ago I used to use motor flush and while it worked I can't say I reccomend that anymore.

I would say clean what you can while you are in there...

A number of mechanics have told me to run a half a quart of trans fluid in the oil for about ten minutes. Get it hot then change the oil. I've seen this and it does work.

Yes, that does work from what I've heard several times. I have never done that to a regular internal combustion engine, though. Back in my rotary days, I did it alot. My old RX-7 got the treatment quite a bit .... but it was more so to lube up the apex seal, as I found out my oil metering pump was bad (yeah, it pumps oil into the combustion chambers when the engine is running, go figure, lol). It makes a rotary run cleaner & better ..... but V-8's, I dunno.

seriously though, trans fluid/diesel int eh crankcase is not recommended. that sludge has to go somewhere and it usually goes into the oil pump or could clog up the pickup screeen.

True .....

That is how I got my Mountaineer 5.0. A guy rolled into my dad's shop and asked him to put a new engine in because he wasn't getting oil pressure. My dad slapped a junkyard Explorer engine in there for him. He gives the old one to my dad. My dad gave it to me. I tear it apart .... to find that sludge had clogged the screen. It also spun 2 bearings. It can be some bad stuff .... you might want to tear it apart and clean everything .....

that stuff definetly works, ive used it in my old motor and had to change the filter half way through the rinse phase because it filled up with sludge. definetly worth it imho
