I recently approached two shops in Red Deer to do a front-end set up following an install of lowering springs. The car is under 100K kilometres and all the parts used were new. I choose these companies because both have shown a willingness and ability to work with custom vehicles. One refused outright and the other stipulated that all specials would be off and I would be on an hourly clock. Is this typical or are there other companies in this area who have a better attitude? It is noteworthy that we have patronized the second shop for years and purchased thousands of dollars worth of tires and services.

What exactly do you mean by "front end set up" ? Just an alignment or a whole other job?

I wasn't looking for anything fancy, just a basic alignment.

You need to look elsewhere. A Stang lowered about 1.5" without caster/camber plates can still be made pretty darn close to factory and ANY competant shop should be able to handle that, for no extra charges.

I went to Kal-Tire on 67th street last time, there were no problems at all, they give you a print out of the alignment specs too. I was told by another shop here in town that they wouldn't touch it cause the car is lowered. If its a custom alignment on a lowered car or a big lifted truck that the shop can't use factory specs, then some shops won't touch it. I don't know if its a liability thing for them or if they just don't understand the principal of a proper alignment without the factory specs to go by.

Thanks nvrenuff, Red2000GT I suspected exactly the same and could not understand why anyone would turn away business generated by a simple job. My take is that some shops are offering cheap flat rates with the hope of drawing in cars that will require a lot of parts. I suppose they are afraid of committing to a bargain price and doing a lot of work for someone who isn't a total fool. Anyway I will try some other places including Kal Tire.

Thanks Speed Freak I will keep that in mind for next time. I went to Kal Tire (South) this morning and they did a completely professional job for a decent price. I would recommend them.
