what kind of battery are you using? will the extra 49 cubes make any difference in starting capability with the same battery? i was going to buy an optima redtop but its $130. should i go with it anyway?

mine has 6 years, a bad alternator, and an accident under its belt. I'm an optima fan for life. My next one will be a deep cycle.

ill vote for an optima too.

i just bought the yellow top one. good for high draw applications if you have a stereo, and if the car sits for longer periods of time it said.

I have an oddessy racing battery. I love it. The car can sit for weeks and it will still crank. I paid like 170 for it. It is 2/3's the size of a normal battery and easily cranks the car. I have found that you can not do a low amp charge on these things, it just wont take. I do a 30 amp charge while I run the fan and WP then drop it to a 15 amp untill it drops the gague. Then I shut it off and I am ready to race!

I have an interstate because I got it when I bought my car and working for a dealer of interstate helps, and when I put the battery in the trunk, I warrantied it out for a size 34 which is the biggest and most powerfull battery besides the disel and marine apps, but if I were to actually buy one I would get an Optima. Regular wet cell batteries don't take discharge and recharge too well. They also loose thier charge over time and corrode.

Red is standard, Yellow is heavy duty, and blue I thought was the Marine battery and is deep cycle, correct me if I am wrong.

the red might have slightly higher CCA, other than that I can' think of any disadvantages besides the price.

i got my redtop for 99 from cosco's, with the 2 year replacement warranty. Only thing with the cosco one is you need to modify the tray holddown a bit. Reds are cranking batteries, yellows are deep cycle automotive, and blue are marine deep cycle. Deep cycle just means the battery is able to be discharged and recharged more times than the a normal battery. If you can afford it, getting the yellow top wouldn't hurt, but the red top would be just as good, almost.

This should answer all your question about Optima Batteries, except where to find one cheap. http://www.1st-optima-batteries.com/
Costco usually has the best prices year round on Optima so it seems , but the Chief Auto was running a special a few weeks ago, you may want to check into that also.
