bought an A9P that had an AutoLogic chip in it, and I've sent it to someone already, but they're unable to read it. They can reprogram it, but if I can still get someone to read it, that would be nice.

Any ideas (pertinent to my question ) ?

Ask them how they plan to program the chip if they can't even read it. If the tune wasn't for your setup already, then you probably can't use it anyway, so there's no need to even have it...

Which Autologic version is it? What does it look like? From what I can tell, the last version was potted in a black case with a J3 edgecard connector and some wires sticking out. Since it's such an old chip without much support left anymore, I would be inclined to depot it and find out what's inside. It's a PITA, but there are OTC chemicals than can probably loosen up the epoxy.

It's exactly as you've described it.

I don't know. Don't quote me, but I want to say he said it was encrypted, and that he was still trying to read it. He suggested that he could just erase it & write a new code on it, again, not verbatim, but close to that.

I was going to suggest some sort of encryption, but on a chip like that; it doesn't make any sense. It's not like there's tax information or bank statements on there. It's pointless to encrypt such a device... If he can reprogram it, that's one thing, but if he can't read it, something is probably corrupt, and he may not be able to rewrite any data. The chip itself may have failed.
