Im curious to know because I was punked by a late 40ish man in a 2004 Mustang GT at the stoplight today. By punked I mean he had an aftermarket exhaust and was basically revving the hell out of it next to me. He told me to rev mine but of course my stock GT was no match. Then he asked me to race on the freeway but I told him he was a waste of my time. He only has an intake and exhaust, I have seen his car at the track on display but never actually running. Was I full of crap telling him I would win? I have no expirance with the 4.6, but I do have alot of expirance with my 5.0 at the track and building it up. I know I would slaughter him with the 5.0, but how about my new 2006 GT? I will see him again for sure either at the track or on the street,I perfer to run him at the track. I will be adding a Demolet cold air intake with revised programming tommorow. Any thoughts from people who have more expirance with the new 3v 4.6 or old 2v 4.6?

Would be close, but they do respond good to simple mods, if yours is 100% stock then he might be able to take it

Wow, is it that bad? Arent they the same weight? I know the 2004's have less power and their powerband is at a lower rpm also. I know my car weighs about 3500 pounds, and the 04's are about 3300-3400. Im gonna have the cold air and programmer here tommorow so it wont be stock anymore. I just bought the car last week so Im kinda hesitant on any serious mods. Thats what I got the 5.0 for.....

Not a chance! He may on a rare instance have been putting down 240ish to the wheels and unless he had gears and you can't drive. You would have walked him so bad it would have blone his baby boomer a$$ to the curb. Well, maybe not that bad but you would have won. But that's just more incentive to mod the crap out of it. hehe Have fun.

I had an 04' with 3.73's, predator, K&N FIPK, C&L Plenum, BBK Catted H, Borla Cat-Back and the best mph at the track I could get was 99mph (2100ft elev).

My 05' has a JLTII/XCal 2 combination and I ran 102mph same track and approx conditions. Before this install the car ran 99mph stock.

My conclusion having both, 05 is faster.

since i have a 04 gt 5spd, i can tell u if driven right the 05 is faster stock for stock... ive raced 2 05 gts and won only due to driving better.. they have about 40 hp to the wheels more stock than an 99-04... but the 99-04s arent slow if thats what people think.. it does need gears they help out ALOT.. and this is coming froma guy who wanted an 05gt and ended up with an 04.. gotta good deal

It would definately be close. I figure the '04 would be about 270hp with exhaust and they're about 100lbs. lighter. From a stop, if he got the launch, it would be very close. On the highway, you'd probably pull a few cars.

Seeing your times, it would be a very close race. I'll admit you have the edge in MPH to take me on the top end. Mod for mod our cars are running similar times, and yet I started out with a 40 hp disadvantage.

As far as stock vs. stock, the advantage is definitely the 05-06. I test drove the 05 and it certainly felt alot faster than my car when it was stock. The 99-04 GT's are also geared too high from the factory. Ford did a good move in putting the 3.55's in them now.

Hate to burst your bubble but the higher profile tires on the 05-present cars negate any slight gain the 3.55's would've gotten from the shorter gears.
