I just got a local muffler shop to do me a set of cutouts, and I have to say, I love them. You have the flexibility to have it reasonably quiet (flows with dumps) or open-header loud. Its the best of both worlds, and amazingly, they do not leak at all. I wish I had electrics, but for now, I just have bolt-ons.

Where do you have them, before or after the cats?
I know there is a company that sells the electronic flaps that bolt on where the plate goes.

i have an electric cutout for my srt. basically its a full 3 inch downpipe with cat, the cutout is right before the cat and the switch is going into the armrest console space. in other words, you have the flexibility and driveability of stock exhaust and performance of a full 3 inch turboback exhaust with a flick of a switch.

Its kinda like welding a "Y" shaped pipe to the collector on your headers. The one side is hooked up to the rest of the exhaust, the other side of the "Y" is either electronically opened or manually opened (usually with wing nuts) If you are at the track, you would open the other side of the "Y" and your exhaust goes right out at the end of the header instead of through the rest of the exhaust... ill find a picture..

Trust me, I had my friends near stock 5.0 and my car, and a few others run with no midpipes for one reason or another (never on the street, just moving around in the driveway) and it sounds terrible. Has NO tone, and just sounds awful (of course thats MY opinion). Personally, just get some good flowing mufflers and be done with it!

I thought mind sounded really good with the open H pipe, has a nice high pitch to it, nearly like a cammed ls1. Maybe its because there is no cats, I'm not sure. i like it though.

A friend of mine has a 96 cobra with a cat-less x-pipe and some sort of mufflers, and it sounds horrible i think.

Well thats a personal preferance, but I had my LT equipped car run with open headers, headers and prochamber, headers and catted mod pipe, and headers and X pipe and liked NONE of them. I also dont really like the sound dumps give though, so it might just be me!
