Why should I love the new Mustang?

I'm 6'2' 250 lbs and have no issues fitting in mine. I own a minivan thats what I drive when I want alot of room and utility. the Mustang is a sports car. No Malibu will outhandle a S197 Mustang, not even an SS model. The trunk thing is PITA. I own a GT but, the 6 can be modded to hang with a outrun V8 stangs. just look in the V6 forums. You need a different car, the Mustang is not for you. Its not for everybody. Its easily one of the best looking new cars on the road, the Maxx is well another GM styling????? Good luck and don't expect a whole lot of sympathy posting this stuff on a Mustang forum.

Yeah, I figured it was the 15.1. Everyone knows C&D can't drive. That was a 2002 automatic GT that they butchered.

99-04 GT's stock run closer to 14.0, depending on driver (some even hit high 13's). Auto is a couple tenths slower than the 5 speed.

I don't think I will ever get past the claustrophobic (sp?) size. I have always owned upright sedans with normal rooflilnes or trucks. Sports cars just make me feel too confined. I guess I will never understand how people can be so cramped just so they can sit in a car that looks good.

Of course I was the one in high school driving the 78 Regal with a 400, duals, posi and deliberate primer on small repairs and the steel wheels. Made it all the more fun when we would blow the doors off a Mustang or Iroc Z that was bought with Daddy's money.

Sounds like your mind is made up already, I'm still baffled though since u could have figured this all about beforehand with as simple test drive.

My Stang doesn't feel cramped at all to me, however I like how I do feel locked in though like in a fighter jet. I'm not sure how one is supposed to drive a performance car with the seat all back, with a modified gangster lean and what not.

I should have bought that Roadmaster wagon with the LT1 last year. Woodgrain and all. I wouold have stripped the woodgrain and repainted the car since I run a bodyshop.

As for understanding why we like the car...no explanation will ever fully make you aware. Put the car in the classifieds and go get yourself another Malibu station wagon or whatever that is...of course, you bettter get your wife to approve it first!

I'm a big Mustang fan, but I have to agree with several of PNYEXP's points.

I agree that:
V6 performance is sub par.
Gas mileage sucks on both the V6 & V8.
The headrests need to be adjustable in tilt.
Although the S197 Mustang is incredibly improved in handling, ride & comfort over the old SN95, I agree with his comment about the front end and rear end being disconnected from each other. A couple car reviewers have noticed and commented about this too, so PNYEXP is not the first to figure this out. I'd guess it's from the solid rear axle.
It's really too big and heavy feeling & driving.

I'll add that it's over priced and lacks the creature comforts that a vehicle of it's price must have to be competitive (07 model fixes some of this).

Mustang owners tend to be blindly loyal. PNYEXP is presenting some objective critism, which we should be taking to heart instead of thumbing our noses at him. Great styling becomes a not issue when you're driving a flawed vehicle every day.

Mustang sales have slid badly since the Mustang fevor in 2005, so much so that the 06 Mustang is not even selling as well as the old obsolete Stang it replaces. So the marketplace appears to have figured out the shortcomings Mustang has.

My first an 89GT was paid for with my hard work doing 2 jobs at the age of 18. You know what fun I had? Dusting fogies in their bloated sedan "muscle" as they tried to show off to their disinterested wives only to be owned repeatedly on our mainstreet cruise/races and never to return. Now that's some quality fun.

Blah blah blah, solid rear axle. As soon as they pull it it out people complain. Put it back in and engineer the heck out of it to really improve it and they complain.

The trunk access. HOLY COW there is something to complain about eh? I don't understand HOW exactly you want to get into the trunk? a handle on the trunk? Button on the inside? How about the fact that it's more secure the way it is? You can modify the setup to add a button inside the car if you really need to, it's a very easy mod. Otherwise if you're in the car and need to open it the fob is closer than any button would be. And if you're walking up to the car, wouldn't your keys typically be with you anyways? I mean holy crap. Complain about seating, styling, power handling, but access to the trunk? And then not quanitify what you would prefer is even more ridiculous.

And 351CJ, what vehicle is flawless? You couldn't find one. There is always something that someone sees as a flaw, while others don't. Here we go. The Maxx is about as butt ugly as one could imagine. Handles like a land yahct and I'd rather rip out my spine than sit in GM seating. Let's talk abit about GM switchgear shall we? Hey looks the same as my grandmothers old 84 skylark. Let's get someone in to revamp that look and ergonomics can we?

All this comes down to some idiot who can't be bothered to test drive a car that he/she has to live with for 3 years when they freely admit they are not comfortable in sports cars yet feel the inclement urge to buy whatever a magazine tells them to. I bet you've ordered stuff through E-mail spam too??

Yeah that's definitely the problem, fo sure. Couldn't be that people are so freaked out that they are buying small cars in droves. We'll watch the cycle of people coming back into the fold before long, I can guarantee it. Can't have anything to do with the economy or anything it's definitely the fact that the car doesn't have some other method of trunk access or the headrests are at an odd angle for people who stare at the ceiling while they drive or that solid rear axles are so passe'.

I'm glad you like your 01 GT, I almost bought an 00 in Performance Red back then but I held off, I just couldn't warrant driving a car that at the time held little in benefit over the 89, 86 or even 81 Mustangs that I owned before. I mean it had a better motor, slightly stiffer suspension and an average to good interior, but outside of being new it wasn't offering a whole lot more. I left and drove 3 other "consumer" friendly cars including a couple of imports each with their own "flaws" but came back because not only does the Mustang provide a better overall driving experience but it's also a very cool car.

I only wish I had the moxy to go onto other manufacturers fan forums and start bitching and pissing and moaning about a car I don't own (yeah I'm calling you out PNYEXP). But I don't because as much as I may LOATHE GM vehicles, I don't sit on GM forums and argue with their owners about it because that's LAME.

But gee, thanks for making me see the light PnyExp and 351CJ, I can only hope my dealership will refund my money from my incredibly errant purchase. Doh! My paperwork is locked in the trunk and the keyfob is 5 feet away, what shall I do???

bottom line: you either like the mustang or you dont. there are very few people that dont have a strong opinion either way about this car.

I have no idea why she bought it. I was voting for the 06 Civic with 30/40 fuel mileage. And great interior space. In terms of the Daddy's money I am refering to 1988-1992 back when I was young and street racing all the time.

It may be as simple as the solid rear axle but it seams like more of a lack of compression and rebound in the rear shocks. Maybe they are valved this way to help traction and prevent the car from swapping ends in a corner. Either way it is the worst balanced suspension I have ever owned. There is no way this car could ever compete with any of the 5 cars I autocrossed in the past without serious suspension upgrades and a diet. Maybe I am too critical since I am an enthusiast and realize a well sorted car when I drive one.

Well if you had two kids and coached a soccer team you would understand the need for being able to access the trunk with no keys on you. I can't tell you how many times we have gone to the trunk only to realize you can't get into it without the damn keys.

Who cares about the looks when you spend 1% of the time walking to the car looking at it and 99% of the time actually in it driving it. I am sorry but if my Maxx handles like a land yacht then the Mustang must be an oil tanker. Ford should take some serious lessons from GM on suspension tuning. My Maxx will easily handle as well as the Mustang even with the GT suspension ours has, and at the same time deliver a great ride with even damping front and rear. And as to the switch gear, the gm auto is silky smooth but will react instantly to a jab at the throttle. The Maxx is so much more responsive than the V6 Stang it is not even funny. I already smoked the Stang once with the Maxx. And last the seating, every time I ride in the Mustang my back aches no lie. Tonight I met my wife after work for ice cream and was so relieved I did not have to drive the Mustang home from there since she had my Maxx.

Well here is a picture at home and the second picture is of the fender that was the wrong color from day one. We did not notice it until we had already signed the papers and brought it home. Dealer and Ford Motor Company are refusing to fix it saying it is normal. Proof enough that we own one of these lemons

My 99 GT has a darker rear quarter panel than the rest of the body. Same with the side skirts. However, mine are less noticable (as no one has ever said anything to me) but I noticed. Yours looks pretty bad.

Almost forgot to add that the Mustang has 210hp and is getting a whopping 16mpg. The Maxx has 200hp and gets 24mpg. Both our cars are driven in the same conditions so it is a fair comparison.

Now your sayin...I could have had a V8!!!!! What was I thinking????amnit:

You know what PNYEXP you can feel whatever way about the new Mustang you want. It's a well reviewed, well loved and well respected car by a lot of people. Refering to them as "these lemons" does nothing for your argument.

Bottom line you have no one to blame but yourself for owning a car that obviously isn't right for you and your families needs. If it were me and my car had mismatched panels and the rest I wouldn't have taken delivery of it. It just seems to me that you dropped the ball on this purchase numerous times.

I'm sorry you don't like the car but complaining on here won't fix that.
