hey guys

im having an issue with the stang....at first i thought it was a tuning issue and even told my tuner about it, but now im pretty sure its not...seems like a mechanical issue......heres the issue: the car drives with no issue TILL it gets warm.....once warm i get a squealing noise from under the hood and when it gets a chance to idle, it wants to die....i have to give it gas to keep it on. ive tried to pinpoint where the squealing is coming from but its hard to tell...its somewhere around the engine...ohh yeah, the squealing only happens when the car is at idle and between shifts under 2000rpm.....the squealing goes away when you rev it up, above 2k....i changed my iac, thinking that was the problem, but the problem continues....what do you guys think? thanks in advance

Best bet would be a mechanics stethoscope on metal components to try and pinpoint where the noise is coming from if its a metallic squealing. If its more of a whistling kind of noise, like a large vac leak, that could explain the bad idle. In theory, whatever MAY be leaking could be expanding as the temp rises like things naturally do. And vac leaks are worst at idle when theres high vacuum, which could explain why it goes away at higher RPM. These are just theories though. Hopefully you gigure out what it is. Report back either way.

the next time it's squeeling just push back and forth on the dizzy a little. if it stops, start looking for a new one. and the random stalling could be the dizzy also.

Try taking your belt off and running for a minute without it. This will tell you whether it's one of you accessories making the noise or something in the motor.

This what I'd do too. Only run it for under a minute since you'll have it at temp but wont be turning the water pump.

If that helps, check each accessory. The smog pump and alt are likely to squeal in my experience. The load of the cooling fan might be causing the alt to squeal under a load.

Alright guys, I finally got a chance to check it out....I let it idle for 15 mins to get warm ....once at 185*, when I would give it gas, it would whine and it would do a somewhat screeching noise, sounded like it was coming from the pump..I took off the belt and when I would give it gas it would still whine but without the screeching noise...I also have been noticing that everytime I would use it, after I have parked it..It would leak water from what seems like under the pump...what do u guys think? Also, my stocker damper worries me...like I said its the stocker and that could also be the problem, so I'm gonna replace that either way (dont know why I didint during head swap). Let me know what u guys think

There's a hole under the water pump that leaks when the bearings in the pump are wearing out. Try turning the water pump pulley by hand with the belt off - you should be able to tell if that is the source of the squeak.

I highly recommend a Stewart water pump - they flow about 25% more than the OEM pumps. I would stay away from remanufactured pumps, I've heard they don't always last as long as new pumps.
