An 87 would have also had an AOD, just like your 91. Unless it had a C4 swapped in it, in which case that should answer your question...

A c4 will work i just did the swap myself. The only thing you will have to change will be the flexplate and the converter and slightly modify your cross member. the flexplate you will need will be a 157 tooth 50 oz balance .

I also agree. I have a c-4 in my car. The only computer related issue is that the aod has a trans range switch and the c-4 does not. This will only affect one thing......When you put the car in reverse from park or nuetral or in drive from park or nuetral the computer gets the signal from the range switch and sends a signal to the idle air motor to open slightly to idle the car up,just slightly, so the car won't die with the extra load on it. Most people with small cams will never notice this problem. Those with larger cams usually adapt by double footing the gas and brake during the gear change. Although the effect will be varied due to many different things...Idle speed, trans line press, stall, ect. Hope this helps.
