Will the check engine light come on if I do this?

I am wanting to do a smog pump delete. If I yank all that stuff outa there on my 94GT, will the check engine light come one? If so, what is the best way to make it go off? Do I have to take it somewhere and have them delete the code? I'm not talking about the EGR valve, just the smog pump.

And does anyone know the belt size that you need after you do this?

Removing the pump & hardware wont trip a CEL...The EGR will if you dont "set" the plunger. You still run cats??? should keep the pump if you do.

I did it before and the engine light came on so I wanted some more opinions. No harm in that.

As for the cats I think I have to run them to pass my local inspection. Unless you're talking about just running a bolt on exhaust bypass until its inspection time. Which sounds like a pretty good idea.

If you have inspection where you are, I am pretty sure you will need the pump to pass.

As for your cats, they are designed specifically to have the air pump blowing into them.
If you remove the pump from cats that are designed to have it, the cats will clog.
So, if you need the cats to remain, you need the pump to remain.
If you remove the cats, the pump serves no purpose at that point.

Make sense?

Most places you won't need the pump. Most inspections only check for catalytic converters. The smog pump only gets the cats up to temperature. Once the car is warmed up, it doesn't do anything. That's why most modern cars have electric smog pumps (or no smog pump) , so that it can turn off once the car is at normal operating temperature.

I run cats with no smog... No problems...

The old cats in these cars expect the extra O2 for warm catalyzation. This is different than the light-off function, which is why the system is controlled with solenoids.

Some newer cats do not require the extra O2.

So basically modern cats will not need to be warmed up? What about the O2 sensors? Don't they need to be warmed up before they will function properly?

The car uses electrically heated O2 sensors, so that's not an issue. Good cats will work just fine without a smog pump. I have no EGR, no smog pump, and only 2 forward cats off a 93' Mustang, and my car passes just fine.

Nice! Was it a pain to get the engine code for the EGR valve deleted? Was it costly? I know if you take that off, the check engine light comes on.

Plug in the valve... set it about halfway... tuck it behind the motor... problem solved.
