I just got my windows tinted about a week ago and have started to get some scratches on the tint from the inner window seal. I know that some people have had someone put felt over or on that seal but the shop that put my tint on said that it is a manufacturers defect and I should notify my car dealer first and see if they are going to recall it. If so ford should pay for the replacemnet of the tint and fix the seal. Has any body had this problem and went to the dealer about it yet?

A factory defect? Thats the first time I've heard anyone describe it as a factory defect. My understanding was that Ford simply designed it differently than in previous years. Since I don't recall seeing any reports of the lack of felt causing scratches on un-tinted windows, I suspect you'll be hard pressed to see Ford admit this is a mistake.

Not really a defect. The stock windows do not scratch. I have serious doubts you'll get ford to drop a dime your way because of window tint scratching.

They are probley pinches or it is creased !

I would contact another tint shop in the area and show them and see if it is a common problem if it is a bad tint job they will tell you .Did the window tint have a warranty and if so who was it threw? If it did contact the manufacturer of the tint and let them know if the tint shop dose not offers to fix it at no cost to you. If you did not get a warranty then you should have went to a better tint shop. In the tint biz you get what you pay for.

Oh, it's definately a common problem w/ the 05's, mine is scratched to hell, and my friend that owns a window tint shop's is scratached to hell also......It is b/c the interior guide doesn't have felt. Hope this helps, maybe we need a group complaint towards Ford.

A professional tint shop will notice right away if the film will get scratched or not. Its pretty obvious just by looking at the inner seal that its going to scratch film. You got burned, and now they are trying to pass the blame. Definately find a better shop.

I beleave that they just had no clue. I did not get to talk to the guy that installed my tint but everyone else that I have talked to there had no idea that the seal was like that. I may have got burned on the seal but they sure know how to install tint, but again this is the first time i have ever had tint put on any of my vehicles.

when your "professional tint shop" pulls the windows and inspects for anything that will damage the tint, they will fix the problem.

this is what seperates the pros from the shop on the corner that give discounts and talk smack.

if you do a search on tint you will see this is a very common problem with the 05's just add a felt strip to your seal and your good to go.

Can you please explain how you added the felt strip?

The tint shop can apply the felt. If they don't offer the option, find another shop. Its about a half inch wide and runs the entire length of the plastic seal where the window rubs against it. I paid $30 extra for it, and no scratches.

I had a very reputable top rated shop do my tint and have noticed I have scratches, top to bottom, in the center part of the window (really s ucks as this is the first time I have ever used window tint). Time to go visit to see what they have to say.

I am very glad that I came across this thread, since that is the first thing we plan to do after picking up the car. Florida heat without window tint would just be unbearable!

scratched tint very common

My tint on my 05 is scratched to hell. I have read it's very common here in the forum. The only solution is get felt installed in on the inside guide and get them retinted.

I totally agree.....my tint guy took one look at it and told me he would hot glue a felt strip in it. That was three months ago and not one single scratch....the total tint job including that felt cost me 175.00. Experienced guys will dio it right without even asking them about it.....they dont want to have to peel that stuff back off....LOL!!

Just had mine tinted and had them put the felt on it as a precaution. It cost $65 extra and so far no scratches yet but its only been 3 days.

The factory tint isnt bad on the driver and passenger windows and in Iowa it is illegal to tint them. When I went to pick it up I was mad cuz I thought they tinted 'em too. save some money, just do the back 3 and a visor strip
