Break out the wiring diagrams. Draw on paper, label or mark what you need, and be patient. It isnt something your going to get done in a coupla nights.
I took about a couple of nights before i tore into the wire and did nothing but study the diagrams and marked what i would keep and what i would take out. Plan it out and make steps to complete.
looks like maybe you snipped the wrong wire. I figured out what i needed to keep and drew out every connector under the dash (most all are different shapes) and drew out wires comeing out and labeled the color of each. I also traced EVERY single wire and found out where it went. Note i did have a couple things not work like you did and found out that grounds did tie together to make that system work. Perhaps the case with your headlights.
If you are not sure about what you are cutting do NOT cut it. Label it with different color electrical tape like yellow to mean unsure.
Ill tell ya again bro, you gotta study the whole thing and plan it out.
