Would I be better off with a stock cam?

I ran a best of 14.77@95 last summer with the mods on my 88 GT as listed below. When i bought my car, I knew it had a Comp cam in it. The specs are:215/220 degress duration @0.50" lift, 0.533"/0.533" max lift. My car has speed density but the computer was tuned for that cam. My car still has stock heads, and we all know that an hotter cam with stock heads doesn't do a whole lot. My question is, would i be better off to switch back to a stock cam (or other speed-density friendly cam) and revert back to the stock computer? Do you think I'm actually down on power because of this? I've seen so many other 5.0's hit high 13's without nearly as many bolt ons, which is my short-term goal for next year. Can i get there without dropping the cash for heads? Flame away guys....I'm all ears

It is possible it could be hurting you.
I have a stock cam, stock heads, stock headers, stock injectors, etc..... and am already in the mid 13's with a crappy 2.1 short time. With my MPH, I know 12's are not a problem with slicks...

I'd rather see you put the time and dollars in to a mass-air upgrade.

I think ur valve springs are floating hardcore. The stock lift load on those springs is .500 i think. And they are probably old and worn out. You should try installing Ford Motorsport valve spring kit FMS-M-6513-A50. Im pretty sure they handle up to .600 lift.

Thanks for the responses, guys. What would you recommend for a camshaft if I were to switch to mass air? Would that put me down into the 13's somewhere? Ideally, that is my short term goal for next year.

I had a B303 as well and swapped back to stock. With my auto at the time the B cam sucked and really hurt the car. The stock cam made a lot more bottem end. With stock heads and intake a cam will help some, but the right cam. When you add an intake or a little more flow on the heads a cam starts to really help.

If your going with heads and intake later, leave the cam, but if you arent, I say get it out, stock cam and roller rockers might help.

And dont listen to raph, he has no 13 second proof of anything, just BS he cant back up!

umm you were talking about my car and how you could smoke any LS1. I begged to differ. You're the one with your panties in a bunch. The challenge has been laid on the table. Accept it or STFU.
